“Can he watch the games on telly?”

Yes, providing he has paid the government for his license to own a telly.

I’m a fan of his, but he really doesn’t need to be putting himself in that kind of environment anyway, considering all of his enemies.

Isn’t violence a normal part of attending a football match in the UK?

He was once penalized for calling a Welsh fan a “wanker”. Six months probation. They got their administrative sights set on him.

In Israel, you can own a telly, but you have to pay to get plugged in to the networks. I thought that was how it worked in the UK, too. Doesn’t matter. Whatever I want to see, I can get on the Internet.

No, bk - in the UK you pay a monthly or yearly charge for owning a TV. This is used to fund the public broadcasting channels.

This generally was a good thing as you get some exquisite public programming on the BBC.

It went wrong when the BBC tried to get public popular and political.

I still think it is good - look at the Oceans TV program created by the BBC - the cost of that wouldn’t be normally undertaken by private money.

But needs reform

American PBS was originally a bold new experiment. But it, too, degenerated, especially children’s programming. Arthur, Curious George and the dearly departed Mr. Rogers were all great. But Comrade Clifford the Big Bolshevik Dog, Caiu, and the later episodes of Sesame Street were an abomination. As for the adult programs, let’s not even start.

Public broadcasting should be focused on culture and learning, not on the politics of the day.

So documentaries on nature, on history - without bias, warts and all and on how the civic system works

If it’s going to focus on politics, it cannot be one-sided, but it always is.
