(CNN)A Colorado day care used a "false wall" to hide 26 children under the age of 3 in a basement, police said, concealing the fact it had too many children in its care.
Officers went to Play Mountain Place in Colorado Springs Wednesday after complaints about overcrowding there when they found the children along with two adults behind the false wall. The day care had a licensed capacity of six children, according to May 2019 data on the Colorado Department of Human Services website.

They were just playing hide and seek.
26 children is way over a good caregiver to child ratio.
A false wall sounds like an incredible fire hazard when it comes to evacuation. Imagine firefighters not even knowing the children were there.

Agreed. A fire on ground level could prevent them all from exiting the basement and rescue, if attempted, would sweep the ground floor and find no one.
It’s also a “hazard” to have your children ensconced in a location that parents can’t’ access at will.
What the hell else were they using this false wall for?!

Yeah, it’s a lot cheaper if you don’t have to have the right number of teachers, space, or permits... Guess it’s easy to offer cheaper care if it’s illegal. Then again, it’s Californian where ‘illegal’ is OK with idiot liberals.
Those are “Queen Anne” Victorian houses. They were the “ranch style” house of the late 19th century /early 20th century. My sister owned one in Baltimore and I owned one in western VA. You could go to sleep in her house, wake up in my house and it would take you a minute or two to realize you had been teleported. Many of them have wrap around porches.
