The extreme population has turned going up to the snow in the local mountains around S. CA a nightmare...For example, go to Big Bear and it’s bumper to bumper all the way up the mountain...No joke...It takes 2+ hours just to get to damn from the bottom of the mountain. Thousands line the route and park illegally as thousands of illegals play in the snow right off the side of the highway....They’ve destroyed it.

The Tehachapi pass had 6in snow and was briefly closed.

Snow level below 2000ft.

“It’s the warmest snow on record, however.”

Humor noted.

And when they close the road between Barstow and Bakersfield, it’s an event lol

A freakish event.

Thanks! I think my son was traveling from Sacramento to Death Valley - he has 4WD so should be OK.

The Arvin Grade can be terrifying if driven at night, in fog, with big rigs on the road.

The L.A. area is spectacular after a winter storm. You can see the mountains that surround you that are usually hidden.

I remember when the first vendor set up at 58/395 selling velvet paintings and rugs - now it’s Klines Corners w/ gas stations, etc. I like the Owens Valley area and the Alabama Hills.

What town has the stop light and gas station in the middle of absolute nowhere? There’s a railroad crossing too.

Is it even a town? Is it the corner you reference?

It has always fascinated me.

For over 100 miles in every direction, there’s still nuthin’.

Absolutely nuthin’.

I think you’re both talking about Kramer Junction (junction of 395 and 58). Clines Corner is in New Mexico - junction of I40 and 285.

“Arvin Grade”

Not enough lanes, that are not wide enough, with no divider. And everbody thinks they have to do 90.

Actually, there is some interesting stuff in Mojave where Bert Ruttan built the plane that flew around the world non stop. The new 58 bypasses Mojave now so most miss it.

“Yes. Between Barstow and Needles.”

You got a point.

Or Barstow and Las Vegas.

Well, it’s actually global climate change, you see. /S

Yes it is. I just hate the way global warming makes it so cold. 😁🤣😅

Folks east of the Mississippi or Rockies can’t fathom the sheer emptiness of the West.

There’s not 10 trees between El Paso and Bakersfield.

Yeah, an exaggeration. But a perfect picture.
