I recall the very first time I heard of a compact disc, it was about 1981...pretty long time ago. If I recall correctly, they were about $25 at the time, a pretty tidy sum at the time, about 2x the cost of vinyl. The CD is truly one of the great inventions of our time, 8 track, cassette and vinyl all got replaced by CD.

I got my first CD player and first CD in 1986 for my 16th birthday. I still have that CD and it still plays perfectly. I could pop it in right now and listen to it. Of course, there’s no point to that since I have Apple Music and I can just pull it up on my phone. LOL! But every once in a while I play my 30-year-old CDs just to make sure they’re still playing perfectly and they all do. I still have every CD I’ve ever owned and as far as I know they still all play perfectly.
