In the days before you could order both groceries and magazine subscriptions online, it was damn near impossible to walk through a supermarket checkout line without seeing the term bikini body plastered on glossies at the newsstand. By todays standards, strapping two pieces of material onto any body fits the bill, but a decade ago, the term was still reserved for only those with six-pack abs and not an inch of perceived bodily "imperfection" in sight.
The definition was so narrow, the ideal so unattainable, that when actress and runway model Kate Upton appeared in a bikini on her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover in 2012, people straight-up called her fat. Fast forward five years to when she appeared on the magazines cover again in 2017a year after Ashley Graham became the first curve model to cover the issueand that same body was criticized for not being diverse enough, proving just how much our definition of the bikini body has changed for the better over the last 10 years

Try out any of the Asian or Latin countries (Europe or S America) if you want to see female beauty standards still in force (enforced).
No fat chicks in Paris, that's for sure. Nor in Lima or Buenos Aires or Hong Kong. Paris is a trip - teenage girls learn how to smoke and hang out at the cafes. 20-30 something are always stylish and attractive.
And it ain't the men doing the enforcing - it's the other women. I've watched them watch others - it's a high pressure, low tolerance social set up.
I’ve been getting Star Wars clothing ads popping up in my Pinterest threads....all obese models...finally put the kibbutz to them. Aspiring to obesity is not healthy.
(I always ping GD on Calif specific posts.) I live by the beach in SoCal; in fact, by one of the major destination beaches.
I keep a keen eye out for visitors and locals alike, because, as the saying goes, trends start here. And I can categorically assure every and anyone that the demand by hot dudes for hot chicks has remained unchanged.
I see this firsthand practically every day; even more so during college breaks. The old adage of like attracts like is still firmly entrenched.
Oh, one other thing. We were in NYC 2 weeks ago, and the same observations apply: really attractive 20-somethings wearing tight dresses and high heels, even in cold weather.
Never fear - like illegal drugs, artificial suppression simply leads to other avenues. A 20 something female knows the single surest way to landing a high status male is to be in top form. They ain't taking the bait of some ugly competitor trying to shame them into relinquishing their advantage.
Regarding everybody being a “model,” I blame Oprah and her ilk with the “You go girl!” mentality; that anybody of any weight and appearance is BEAUTIFUL and it’s all equal. That’s not how nature works.
I always think of Wall-E cruise ship members. Fat stubby and unable to stand. It wont be long for half the population. We are near 20 percent now obese and 10 percenr morbidly so.
I just started physical therapy a couple weeks ago for an injury....I was surprised many of the female assistants were overweight.
Jerry Seinfeld on his show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” was in his car with friend George Wallace in Las Vegas and was looking over the people walking around and made a comment about “when did it become ok for men to wear short pants?”
#64 HEY!!
It stop just short of... : )
That is plain mean!
I always liked Mary Ann more than Ginger, but neither are guilty.
And at my age Lovey is looking pretty good.
I was skinny. Stick skinny. 5’9” and weighed 112. Couldn’t put on a pound if I ate the whole buffet. And I loved it because I never had to worry about eating or exercise. I’m still pretty slim compared to the heifers around me but a crapload of steroids when I had cancer while going through menopause messed up my metabolism. I’ve never wanted to be curvy or have boobs. I liked being able to wear whatever I wanted comfortably.
Thanks for the societal update on both coasts.

That pride in themselves often carries over for decades.
Often the pride becomes a force to keep in shape, eat right, exercise and stay on top mentally and physically.
Stopped reading at Kate Upton. Shes a cow.
God bless you-I hope your recovery is complete and lasting-a realtor friend of mine is cancer free for 9 years now, thank God...
I’m 5’8 1/2” and 105-same weight I was at 17-I’ve never been stick-like-I have a very small frame so in order to not look like Twiggy and be able to do the physical work that I enjoy, I started working out with my 1st hubby in my early 20’s-and as long as I work out 3x per week-I have my own free weights and resistance bands-and keep working in construction, I maintain my stamina, muscle tone, etc-keep well defined biceps, all toned and tight as possible-fit into a pair of size 4 or 5 jeans like always-I do eat a paleo diet-plenty of protein no processed food, all grass fed and organic only-I grew up eating like that-I got into eating dorm food my 1st year of college but I was so lacking in energy and gained 10 lbs that I stopped doing that and have never done it again-my body does not like processed food empty carbs or sugar-it doesn’t tolerate drugs, either-so I stay clear of them...
It is interesting how perspectives can change with age and experience-where I used to see myself as totally unfeminine-I see myself now as stronger, harder, and more attractive than those heifers I used to envy-and I know real men see me as a real woman, boobs or no boobs...
