Former abortion worker: We needed women to have abortions ‘to feel better about our own’

Live Action News has documented many cases in which abortion workers pressured women to have abortions. Many former abortion workers have admitted that they were trained to aggressively sell abortions to women, even women who were ambivalent or unsure they wanted them. In some cases, pressure came from the owners of these facilities or from Planned Parenthood supervisors. Some former Planned Parenthood workers have claimed that Planned Parenthood established quotas or goals for the number of abortions to be committed, and reprimanded abortion workers who did not meet those quotas. In these cases, abortion was pushed on women because it was profitable and contributed to the abortion facility’s bottom line.

But there is another possible reason why abortion workers pressure pregnant women to abort.

Former abortion worker Rita, who worked as an abortion “counselor,” was post-abortive. Without her realizing it, subconscious feelings of guilt from her own abortion influenced the way she dealt with pregnant women:

"I was completely driven to help other women to obtain abortions. I was totally invested in keeping abortion safe and legal. I never recognized how pushy and one-sided my counseling was until I became pregnant and wanted a child. Everyone around me was so critical of my own pregnancy. I realized then that I had been the same way toward every pregnant woman who entered our clinic. It’s almost like we needed them to abort so that we could feel better about our own abortions. I was too busy justifying what I had done to be aware that I carried any grief about it."

Rita validated her decision to have her own abortion t every time she convinced another woman to go through with the abortion procedure. It wasn’t until she found herself in the position of the pregnant woman and experienced “counseling” similar to her own that she realized how coercive she had been.

Former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson, who is post-abortive herself, has written about how common it is for Planned Parenthood workers to have abortions in their past. According to Johnson, at a Planned Parenthood meeting in 2009, it was revealed that 70% of Planned Parenthood workers had at least one previous abortion. So the behavior Rita describes might be common in the abortion industry.

Pray for these women. Know it's hard but if I can you can too. I see stuff that has never been posted here, you all just see the tip of the iceberg.

Yes it’s the same reason why so many feminists promote sexual activity. To feel better about their own decision to have sex or shove the pain of regret away.

It’s a closed circle of abuse, like a bad parent doing unto their children what was done to them ,and this brings up a very interesting psychological dimension to the “will to abort’ and the mindset that’s required of its functionaries and implementers.

Yep, this makes total sense. There’s a guilty conscience involved, and getting other people to do the same thing offers a sort of relief from that (”See, I’m not that bad. A lot of people have abortions. I’m in good company”). It’s similar (though obviously much more evil since a baby is being killed) to how some alcoholics insist that you drink with them (”See, I’m not that bad. Everyone else is drinking too”).

I’ve sensed for decades that those who most rabidly promote abortion are those who are trying to suppress their own feelings of guilt over having killed their own child. As someone pointed out above, it’s a matter of trying to convince themselves that what they did is not so bad, since so many others are doing it. But no matter how many others they pressure into having abortions, the sickening knowledge that they killed their own child is only increased every time they successfully compel another woman to kill a baby. So their anger and rabid support of abortion grows, and they never find peace.

Abortion sales begin even before a girl becomes sexually active. Planned Parenthood has a comprehensive sales pitch—stressing the pleasure of sexual activity, teaching about birth control but exaggerating its dangers and likelihood of failure so as to convince young girls that they are better off not using it, and promoting abortion not only as safe, but as therapeutic. When I was in high school, a Planned Parenthood sales representative actually told my biology class that a late term abortion will cure menstrual cramps. She also encouraged the use of the rhythm method by describing the signs of ovulation so that we could avoid sex during the fertile time—except that she switched the “safe” and “risky” phases of the cycle, so that anyone following her advice would be having sex at the most fertile time. Do I think she made a mistake? No, she was intentionally lying so as to increase the number of “unwanted” pregnancies and drum up business.

Reminds me of the Joker intentionally giving wrong addresses in The Dark Knight so that a horrible outcome occurred.

I’m surprised that PP doesn’t give out gift certificates. Maybe they do.

“Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (Romans 1:32).
