“all of the DNA in his semen belonged to his donor. “

Get out jail card free for being an unprotected whore monger.

this is actually kind of scary...what if you have anothers DNA in your body. The other person who donated the blood or organ or whatever committed rape but doesn’t get caught. At some point later the person who is carrying this rapists DNA gets tested for something and authorities are alerted...if you did not have an alibi you could be so screwed.

Can’t be true, haven’t seen this in the movies or tv...............

Not even on Columbo.

“And so anyone who submits a sample for analysis is violating the privacy rights of most family members. Wonderful.”

You would think the government would put a stop to this outrage.

Just think of all the time and trouble this saves. And they say our government is wasteful.

This isn’t surprising. Bone marrow is responsible for making many of the cells which makes up your blood, so it makes sense that his blood’s DNA was altered.

I would say that sperm would likely remain unchanged, but I could be surprised.

Even more surprising to Mr. Long and other colleagues at the crime lab, all of the DNA in his semen belonged to his donor. “I thought that it was pretty incredible that I can disappear and someone else can appear,” he said.

It seems he would have to pass on the DNA he has... very weird.

So could this be the elusive “fountain of youth.”

The only cells in your body that don’t have age markers in them is the sex cells.

It would seem from this article that if the bone marrow transplant is from a younger person, some of that could translate into rolling back the recipient’s clock.

That’s what makes sense to me. Perhaps they mean seminal fluid, rather than the spermatozoa?

Not sure about that but the discovery of DNA was in the 1950s and is detailed by Watson and Crick in their book The Double Helix.

Some family members have already sent DNA, and my neighbors already have Ring.

A woman carries cells from her children, and children carry their mother’s cells. I don’t see how a woman could carry her sex partners’ cells. Spermatazoa are haploid; they don’t divide; they live one week tops.

If somatic cells could transfer during sex, they would go both ways. Even kissing could transfer.

Apparently sperm and semen are two different things. Semen is made up of sperm and the surrounding liquid.

He guy may not even have any sperm after all he has gone through. So his semen is the donor’s DNA but that does’t mean the sperm has the donor’s DNA.

I’m calling BS on this article. Yes, a bone marrow transplant effectively replaces the host’s blood with the donor’s blood as blood is manufactured by bone marrow. But you can no more replace the other DNA in the host body than if a host liver, kidney or heart were used. None of those donor organs are going to supplant the rest of the host.

He had a vasectomy so his sperm can’t make the trip to get into his semen anymore.

Not to be heretical, but there has always been a belief with power in the ‘blood’.

It can’t happen from just having sex... but it can happen from a pregnancy, especially where the child is male. I’m not a doctor so I’ll now duck out of this discussion but I had heard this before and quickly found a couple of links. The process is called microchimerism and it basically is the result of mothers and babies exchanging blood through the placenta...

Since he had a vasectomy he should have no sperm in his semen, so just the carrier liquid has had it's DNA changed. It would be interesting to take a direct sample of his sperm (ouch, needle down there) to see if it had changed too.

The articles you kindly linked to say that women pick up chimeric male cells from their sons during pregnancy, and possibly from brothers’ cells in their own mother’s womb, not from sex partners.
