Philip McKeon, best known for playing Tommy Hyatt on "Alice," has died. He was 55.

The actor died in Texas on Tuesday after a long battle with illness, McKeon's spokesman Jeff Ballard told People magazine.

“We are all beyond heartbroken and devastated over Phil’s passing,” said Ballard in a statement to the outlet. “His wonderful sense of humor, kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all who crossed his path in life.”

McKeon starred in "Alice" from 1976 to 1985 alongside Linda Lavin. The show won eight Golden Globes, and was based on Martin Scorsese's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore."

McKeon is survived by his sister Nancy McKeon, who starred in "The Facts of Life."

After “Alice,” McKeon had several other acting and producing roles and worked in the News Department at KFWB News 98 in Los Angeles for 10 years. In the last few years, he hosted a radio show in Wemberly, Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara, and his sister, “The Facts of Life” actress Nancy McKeon.

Tootie speaks...

My heart is broken & aches for my sister Nancy @NMcKeonOfficial who just lost her brother Phil. Pls cover her w/love & comforting grace. Her father recently passed. We are grateful there’s no pain/suffering, but we feel the hurt, cry the tears & moan in grief. 💔 #PhilipMcKeon pic.twitter.com/4aEh39NYaX— Kim Fields (@KimVFields) December 11, 2019

Show is a retooling of the movie Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore with Diane Ladd and Kris Kristofferson and directed by Martin Scorsese. Mel’s Diner is in the movie and Vic Tayback as Mel, was the only actor who continued his role on the sitcom. Linda Lavin played Alice in the show. Diane Ladd later joined once Polly Holliday left but quit abruptly.
