ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Murders in St. Louis have hit 187, surpassing last year's total with more than two weeks left of 2019.

The number of killings is expected to go up before the end of the year and St. Louis Metropolitan Police say what is fueling it is all the shootings. More than 2,300 have been shot this year in the city, which is a 9% increase from 2018. There has also been a 5% increase in stabbings this year, up to a total of 766 stab victims.

"the most common known motives that are driving the killings are arguments..."

So that's among the reasons.

I wonder how much violent crime in this country is done by Democrats. Anyone want to guess? 75-85%?

With a population of 308,000, that works out to just over 60/100,000.

East St Louis had a murder rate in 2018 of 86/100,000.

Chicago murder rate in 2018 was 20.7/100,000.

Thanks, Democrats!

I guess they must have a HUGE replacement rate to continue to get voters...

...or else, dead men tell no tales so harvesting the VOTES of the DEAD is pretty easy?

Would the LAST true Journalist in America look into this? I’d LOVE to see SOMEONE, ANYONE marry up the voter registrations with the DOA lists.

St Louis is a funny town. There are parts of it that are quite safe, very close to very dangerous places. The powers-that-be see to it that downtown—Bush Stadium, the Arch, etc. are safe. Police presence during and after Cardinal games is quite impressive. But just a couple of miles away, it gets scary very fast.

There are also neighborhoods away from downtown that are also pretty safe. I doubt if there is much trouble in the old Italian neighborhood known as “the Hill”. Either the police or the people who live there keep them that way.

Black areas of the city are infested with gangs—lots of gangs. That, of course, is a problem for the city and the law-abiding who find themselves living there. St Louis is small geographically, which means that the several gangs are all jammed up living very close to one another. Gang territories are small and are defended ferociously, which results in such a high murder rate.

There is some good news. St Louis is losing population so that it may no longer qualify as the most dangerous big city since it won’t be considered a big city.

I rode an Amtrak through there.

The Station seemed to be fine and I got to see the Arch but never got off the RR car...

I live in the Benton Park area of ST. Louis. As you note there are safe areas and extremely dangers areas. But even in the normally safe areas the gangs will drive through looking for an easy mark. I most often have my 9mm on me.
One of the problems we have in our area is the traveling drug deals. They drive up a residential side street get out of their cars, make the deal, and drive away. If it goes bad a gunfight breaks out right there.
We were on the Metro-link train up to the airport twice in two days and the security/police presence was much greater then in the past, and it needed to be. Cops would ask for tickets on every trip something that was seldom done. There were also no loud obnoxious types as was common before, which is a good thing.

No has been shot here in the last 20 years where I live in Eastern California, and most of us own guns. Think I'll stay put.

It's a remake of a wonderful old classic, updated to "Murder Me In St. Louis"

As usual the remake of a classic leaves much to be desired.
