And that is when documents get declassified.

“Patton’s new driver was reckless and drove fast.”

This was a low speed collision, 20 mph or less. Caused by a deuce and a half driver who made a left turn in front of Patton’s car. Patton was the only one injured in the wreck.

It was a heavy 1939 Cadillac, with a glass partition between the front and rear. Patton was thrown against the partition and his neck was broken.

Thanks. I have a Master’s degree in Gemorphology and served as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Military Academy and served on the faculty of the Command and General Staff College. In addition, I am a graduate of the U.S. Army War College.

In my opinion, I believe that the burden of proof lies with Wilcox, who must prove his case, not the other way around. I don’t believe that any of the conspiracy advocates have made the case, including Wilcox, but he has probably done better financially than most authors of military history. You might find the following to be of interest.

“i guess the other two passengers riding with Patton were just lucky as hell not to get a scratch”

There was only one other passenger, Hobart Gay.

Patton had been riding shotgun until he noticed a dog in the jeep trailing his car. Patton thought the dog was suffering from the cold. He told his driver to stop and get the dog, which he then put in the passenger seat. Patton moved to the back. The accident occurred shortly after.

I remember when Wilcox’s book came out and was not impressed with either the reviews or the premise. Consequently, I’ve neither purchased it for myself or the military library I was in charge of. In reading the reviews on Amazon.com, I’m still not impressed with the book, it sounds like a nice piece of conspiracy theories. I’ll stick with the official Army records on Gen Patton’s death.

A two and half ton Army truck heading for a parking lot turned left in front of Patton’s car. A low speed collision occurred but Patton was thrown against a glass partition and suffered a broken neck.

Apparently, even Wilcox has admitted that his account was not “proven”, but it could have been true. All of this conspiracy apparently emerged from an effort by MGM to promote their awful movie. Like you, I will rely on the official reports from 1945.

None of the objections raised by the article are compelling. Truth about a controversial issue is rarely delivered all at once with a bow on top. Instead, even when only about a disputed historical matter, truth usually comes out in fits and starts, obscured by qualifications and errors and often reliant on dubious sources to get things rolling. People who are fat and happy rarely spill secrets, but the hungry and discontented do.

Whatever the merits of Wilcox's exposition, it is based on Douglas Bazata's claims. Bitter and in need of cash can translate to talkative about secrets. Bazata's operational record in the OSS ought to be declassified, scrutinized by competent historians, and compared to his diary and other statements and materials. Slowly, the more or less definitive truth should then emerge.

Douglas Bazata was the Eric Ciamarella of his day. Not a credible witness. When real evidence emerges, the discussion may continue. Until then, we are minutes away from Kansas City and Chicago kickoff. Bye

I was in Germany when that came out. I don’t remember seeing it in the post movie theaters over there, but then there usually a delay of 6 months to a year before new releases made it to the military bases overseas.

Why run the risk of permanently poisoning relations with the West by keeping thousands of Allied POWs to work as slaves when he already had plenty of others? That makes zero sense.

Did everything Stalin did make sense except to strengthen his hand? If he had multitudes of American POWs then we knew it, and he know American intel knew he had multitudes of POWs, but did not want to make it known and did the V-day celebratory mood, and thus they would be a secret bargaining chip

Even then (Jul 4, 1991)

As for poisoning relations with the West, do you think that prevented extensive spy infiltration?

Yet I hope it was not true.
