Patton’s new driver was reckless and drove fast.

The article makes it clear that his driver had nothing to do with the accident and it was fairly low speed. Nobody else was injured.

I read a detailed account of the accident many years ago so I am going on old memory. I do recall that it was a low speed accident but I think his driver was being reckless.

Patton asked that he not be held accountable.

Also I have a hard time believing thousands of Allied POWs were left to be worked to death in Soviet gulags. Stalin had no shortage of slaves at that point since he had half of Europe. Why run the risk of permanently poisoning relations with the West by keeping thousands of Allied POWs to work as slaves when he already had plenty of others? That makes zero sense.
