Saturday shopping set a single-day sales record, analyst says

Holiday shopping set records over the weekend, with Super Saturday sales reaching $34.4 billion, the biggest single day in U.S. retail history, according to Customer Growth Partners.

“Paced by the ‘Big Four’ mega-retailers -- Walmart, Amazon, Costco and Target -- Super Saturday was boosted by the best traffic our team has seen in years,” said Craig Johnson, president of the retail research firm.

Job growth and fatter wallets, along with stronger household finances, have put consumers in a buying mood this season, Johnson said. And more of them are shopping online. As retailers offer improved web platforms, online spending so far this season has accounted for 58% of sales growth from a year earlier, he said.

While foot traffic was down at most malls, the conversion rate, or the percentage of people who go to malls and make a purchase, rose, Johnson said. Even long-struggling department stores “had their best weekend of the season,” he said.

We drove by the Spokane Valley Mall on I-90 Saturday at 4:30 PM and the traffic jam leaving the mall was GIGANTIC. It was going to take people a couple hours to get out of the lot and off the secondary roads around the mall. I’ve never, ever, seen such a huge traffic jam at a mall. Thank Goodness we weren’t in it!

The fantastic economic boom is certainly helping me but not as much as it would have in my earlier years, for several personal reasons.

That doesn’t make me love it ANY LESS. Not even a little.

It helps my nephews and nieces a LOT.

And if I didn’t know a soul I would still love the prosperity because it would be helping my country.

A country that has been great to now Three generations of Italian descendants.

How do you repay a country that saved your family?

By honoring it and doing your part to keep it great.

Merry Christmas

I can believe it.

Went to Ariat to pick up a beanie, as my secret santa gift.

Walked out with a pair of boots.

Beautiful Cayman boots, black and beautiful...

Like I needed another pair of boots.

I have a few dozen Ariat boots, along with my Lucchese, Kemo Sabe, Tony Lama and Ropers...

I will wear these wonderful boots when I am installed as Master of my Masonic Lodge next month...

And I thought I had too many boots....not cowboy boots but cold weather boots. I have 5 pairs of UGGS, all different styles of course, and then every other kind of dress boot in between ankle and knee. It doesn’t even get that cold here. Not sure why I need so many expensive pairs of boots. lol
