Petty Officer 1st Class Beirut Pakbara was receiving treatment for the infection, but his condition worsened when it spread to his bloodstream, according to a Facebook post from the Royal Thai Navy. He died this week and was buried Friday at the Talosai mosque in the Langu district of the Satun province, reported the Bangkok Post.
A Royal Thai Navy spokesman told the Bangkok Post that Beirut will be posthumously promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
Beirut is the second diver to lose his life as a result of the cave rescue. Saman Kunam, a retired Thai navy diver, died during the mission in July 2018 while staging oxygen tanks along the 2.5-mile route to the 12 boys and their coach. The Wild Boars soccer team had become trapped deep in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave during an adventurous outing that went horribly wrong when heavy rainfall filled the flood-prone passages with murky water.

Sad, indeed.
Dreadful. RIP, Lieutenant Beirut.
Scary stuff...there are some SERIOUS bugs out there, which don’t just cry uncle when they see some penicillin.
Brave and dedicated man. May his god welcome him with loving arms.

My son ended up in the hospital for what they thought was double pneumonia. Normal antibiotics weren’t doing anything so they thought some IV’s with stronger stuff would do it.
Lung tissue samples were sent all over the country numerous times including many times to the CDC in Atlanta.
NOBODY could identify it.
In the course of two and a half years, 300 days in the hospital, dozens upon dozens of doctors from many different specialties and finally a stem cell transplant they still aren’t sure what it is. He is now terminally ill with a brain tumor.
The world is a much smaller place than it once was. A superbug can get around the world in a day.
Yes.
Does your son have a prayer thread? Couldn’t hurt.
I pray for G_d’s care to your son.
I will pray for your son and you.
Prayers for your son, and your family.
I’m sorry. I can imagine.
My daughter was hospitalized during thanksgiving week with a blood clot in her calf that broke apart and traveled to her lungs resulting in pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. Discharged the day after thanksgiving and doing well now.
We were fortunate.
I’m so sorry for your situation.
How horrible! I’ll pray for everyone involved!
May his god welcome him with loving arms.

I know that it may seem in bad taste but I feel it’s very important to point out that the article states he was buried in a mosque. Jesus said he was the only way to the kingdom of God and he didn’t operate out of a mosque. It’s extremely important to make wise decisions while still alive.
Wow, sorry to hear that. Prayers to both of you.
Very sorry to hear this. Prayers for him.
Probably. But that's also why I said his god, and not God.
Perhaps that was in bad taste...
It always irritates me when I hear the word “hero” bantered about casually. Because then true heroes come along, and they deserve this word.
Men who risk their lives to save others are real heroes.
When health officials tell you to not go in the water if you have a sore or open wound, this is the reason.
There were a few people during hurricane Harvey who later died of various infections from wading in contaminated water.
