A woman from Northumberland, England, says she's thankful to be cancer-free after her face was "forever changed" by a chickenpox scar.
Louise Thorell, now 32, said she came down with the chickenpox at age 5, but it wasnt until decades later, in 2018, that a facial scar left behind from the illness took on a waxier, tougher texture, Media Drum World reported.
Thorell, who has a family history of skin cancer, was referred to a specialist who diagnosed her with basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, typically caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or indoor tanning booths. Basal cell carcinoma can appear as open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, scars or even growths, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation.
It took three procedures before Thorells cancer was removed, and her doctor told her she may have had the cancer for years without knowing it.

I have had so many that I can’t even begin to remember them all. My Dr. cuts one off about once a month.
He found a large melanoma on the back of my neck. It was fortunately in the first stages. It did leave a 12 inch scar which you never see.
The last one off my arm about 3 weeks ago had both basal and squamous cells.
I had one on the bridge of my nose and they sent me to a plastic surgeon. He was going to go through such a long process, that I just went to the local surgeon and it appears to me that he did just as good a job as it is barely visible and I really don’t care.
So far only basal cell on me. The mohs procedure left a gouge on my nose.
Oddly the worst scar was left when a dermatologist just sliced a couple off my arm sort of like slicing a piece of skin off a potato. It took no time but they were slow to heal and left a bad scar.
That is exactly what my wife had done and the same resulting small gouge. Thank God they are so good at diagnosing these things and are able to tell in real time during the surgery if they’ve gotten all the bad cells.
That scar is ridiculous for a nasal cell removal. Id sue the doctor.
I was a teenager in Florida in the 60s before sunscreens and worked outside quite a bit in my youth.
I’ve been burned and carved on a few times as a result. Sucks. I’m religious about seeing the dermatologist regularly.
My doc and I are REAL good friends. Luckily, he’s also a cosmetic surgeon. If he ain’t slicing and dicing on me...he’s freezing me.
Stay on top of that stuff!

Same here. I go to my dermatologist several times a year and his office is 160 miles from my home.
Mr. mm and I had a friend prone to skin cancer tell us once that someone from Australia tell him that cancer cannot live in the presence of baking soda so his recommendation was to make a paste of olive oil and baking soda and apply it to the spot.
He did and said it hurt like the dickens but after three weeks, it was completely gone.
I actually used that some age spots on my hands and after a while thye kind of peeled off.
So, FWIW....... there you are.....
Its the UK.
