Seahawks at Eagles final score: Russell Wilson, D.K. Metcalf lead Seattle over Philly in wild-card finale

It was not pretty, and it was probably far more difficult than it should have been, given the circumstances, but the Seattle Seahawks went on the road and beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the final game of the wild card round, prevailing by a 17-9 score.

Seattle took an early lead but never really extended it far enough to put the Eagles away, despite the fact that Philadelphia was working without so many injured players on both defense and offense -- including Carson Wentz, who was concussed during the first quarter. The Seahawks struggled to run the ball all game, yet insisted on running it often. They also took 11 penalties, allowing the Eagles to stay in a game they probably had no business competing in once Wentz went down.

In the end, two players made the difference in the game: Russell Wilson and DK Metcalf... it was Metcalf's breakout game that truly stood out. He scored what ended up being the game-winning touchdown on a 53-yard strike from Wilson. He sealed the game with a similarly-placed 36-yard catch down the field, skying over two Eagles defensive backs to haul it in and allow his team to run out the clock. He ended the game with seven catches for 160 yards and the aforementioned score...

The Seattle defense held Philadelphia to just three points, holding Wentz to 1 of 4 passing for three yards before his exit, then sacking Josh McCown six times on 34 dropbacks and pressuring him far more often. Seattle ended the game with seven total sacks, nine QB hits, and 11 tackles for loss. They held the Eagles to 3 of 11 on third down, 0 of 2 on fourth, and 0 of 3 on their red zone trips.

Subtitled, "The Wilson to Metcalf connection was too much for an injury-riddled Philadelphia team to overcome". Yes, I'm aware that the topic names are no longer length-limited.

They are fun game to watch.

But I think in the end though it’s gonna be San Francisco and Baltimore

Apparently the next change will be to reduce preseason by two games, and add one regular season game (for the revenue, but it should make for a cleaner playoff bracket). The league/owners wanted 18 regular season games, the players org wouldn't agree to that (for now).

That would be the smart money, for people who bet on games, and assuming the game isn't crooked -- but of course, the NFL is of, by, and for big money gambling, so the "upsets" pay some shadowy corrupt figures plenty at the expense of basically honest bettors.

Probably easiest to buy a ref.

But then you have to hope that ref can throw the game.

A couple of illegal touching or offensive holding calls is all a ref has to do.

"Seattle took an early lead but never really extended it far enough to put the Eagles away, despite the fact that Philadelphia was working without so many injured players on both defense and offense -- including Carson Wentz, who was concussed during the first quarter."

The Seahawks were playing without many injured players:

Duane Brown, Jaron Brown, Mike Iupati, Joey Hunt, Malik Turner, Mychal Kendricks, Quandre Diggs, Luke Willson, Rashaad Penny, C.J. Prosise, Josh Gordon, Will Dissly, Justin Britt, Ethan Pocic, Al Woods, Tedric Thompson, Chris Carson, Phil Haynes, and Cody Barton (20 total players).

Eagles injured players: Lane Johnson, Nelson Agholor, Brandon Brooks, DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Malik Jackson, Ronald Darby, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Hassan Ridgeway, Darren Sproles, Corey Clement, Jordan Mailata, Joe Ostman, and at the game, Carson Wentz (14 total players).

Seahawks quarterback, Russel Wilson displayed an incredible show of his capability completing 18 of 30 passes (60%) for 325 yards, a TD, and no turnovers; while adding 45 yards rushing. It showed the the Eagle's defense outmatched by Wilson. After watching at Century Link Field last Sunday, the Seahawks lose to the 49ers--in a very disappointing game--this one made up for everything.

It’s going to be interesting to see if the NFL League Office decides that Clowney’s hit was excessive. I favor “letting them play” but so many times the league refuses to do that.

Joey Hunt, Quandre Diggs, Luke Willson, and Cody Barton played. I think I saw Luke in there - but I don’t think he made any plays. Hunt replaced Justin Britt at center. He does okay, but Britt is a lot bigger and has been doing it for a long time.

I heard on the radio that the score was the same as earlier in the year when the Seahawks beat the Eagles in Philadelphia. The radio guys said that is the first time that has happened in the Superbowl era (same score, same field, same year).

Jeez - the football guys are getting as bad as the baseball guys when it comes to stats. (Hmm - I wonder what the Jersey combinations were - I know they keep those stats too!)

Didn’t watch, but am very happy my local watering hole will no longer be stuffed with Philly meatheads every weekend.
