But were the Mullahs 100 percent committed to him?

Except that he fully believed the Koranic model of Islamic government and chose a place of action and jihad INSTEAD of the naval gazing scholars who are to rule.

Say he had overthrown the Mullahs.

He would have been expected to hand over running the military operations to a warrior and become a serious student of the Koran full time and spent his days in Prayer, study, and philosophical meditations debating the Koran and the Hadith with similarly focused jihadi thinkers.

The general was a loyal doer, not a wannabe thinker.

Did you get this from Scott Adams? Because he said it the other day.

His take: Khameneni didn’t care for his too popular No 2 and couldn’t make a peach deal with him alive. So, he fingered him to Trump so Trump could take him out and after a suitable period there will be a peace deal.

The other odd thing I noticed: I saw an aerial photo of damage at one of the bases. They hit the base but the craters seen small for such a big missile. No warheads?

Also, America had prior warning from Iran of the strike and went into shelters at the bases.

No...he was “the price” they had to pay.

If things are starting to ease in three months...you will know the Mullahs dropped the dime on him.

“Can’t help ya Sallie.”

They should have realized by now that Trump has military advisers of a quality which has not been seen in American politics since the nineteen forties.

Yeah I think this is what happened.

Look at how often Little Kim purges his generals

There’s a Middle East expert (Steyer I think is his last name?) who as recently as a few weeks ago that the next Iranian leader to ascend after Khamenei dies would be a military strong-man in the mold of a Putin type.

It doesn’t take much imagination to believe Soleimani was this type of persona. I wonder if there may have been a recent power-play involved between the two or if it had recently been discussed.

Who knows, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility for that to happen.

I remain skeptical.. Esper seems to be doing a good job but the brass standing behind him today looked nervous and a little spooked.

They just didn’t want him to start collecting retirement benefits.

He’s got a lot of advisers, but somewhere he has someone he trusts who has explain the difference between a punitive war and a war of occupation. And he is not being drawn into any of the latter without a declaration from Congress.

We have not seen a president take that stand since the Marshal Plan was implemented.

Don’t know who has taught him this, it may have been someone early in life at West Point.

The left forgets where he was educated.

Did the mullahs set up Suleimani?
Considering the fact they were 100% in favor of what he was doing, and the level of freakout after his death, I think the OP’s theory is silly.

This one is far more plausible:

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/tracked-targeted-killed-qassem-soleimanis-final-hours

Spoiler, since few will bother to read the link:
It’s likely the US had informants either within his own ranks, or among the personnel at airports, checkpoints, etc.
We’ve been monitoring his movements for years.
Bush & Obama had had opportunities to hit him, but declined for years, fearing “escalation”.

And coordinated with usual u.s. enemies of the state to set up Trump...again.
Only it didn’t work..again.
Or, else it was a flawless mission that happened as it mostly appears..?

Obama let him operate with impunity. He thought trump would be so weak too. Trump wasn’t. Dood is dead.

The Mullahs of Iran make Josef Stalin of the former Soviet Union seem like a jovial and smiling old uncle.

Just such an involved plot to rid themselves of a cult figure that threatened the existing power structure would have appealed to the great tyrants of the past.
