Possible but I think more likely Israel, Syria, Russia who are sick and tired of the Islamo Nazis.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Would not surprise me in the least if “concerned parties” in Iran let the US know exactly when Soleimani would be landing.

It would be a good way to eliminate a powerful military leader without risking the military deposing the clergy.

Nah. Soleil-Moon was very easy to track. He was purposely, politically brazen about that. Punky you might say.

No. He was the opposite of any threat to them. If you think of the Mullah’s like a head, the Quds Force general was part of their eyes, their ears, their arms and their legs. The Mullahs are not suicidal and he was not vying to replace them or be over them - he was in lock step with them on all they jointly sought to do.

I am pretty sure Iran did not want that guy dead. He’s been their underground proxy war and terrorist coordinator for years. By all their twisted expectations, I expect he was good at what they wanted him to do. Iran has been pretty effective with their spread of evil and he was apparently the guy in charge of those efforts. They named a successor pretty quickly which means they aren’t planning for any organizational change in direction or efforts.

It would be great if the next guy were to be Clintonized in the next 48 hours.

What if the Mullahs set the General up? They could have sent word to Trump or put him in a very vulnerable position.

Sollemani has been part of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps for a long time rising up the ranks to become the head of their expeditionary force Quds Force. He was 100% committed to the Mullahs.

In this case, the simple answer is the best. Solemani got arrogant, believe all the press clippings about him, saw how the US did nothing to him for the past decade or more as he led Iran’s efforts to dominate the region.

we need to start a “get stoned and think up the wildest conspiracy theory” contest.

the most productive freepers seem to come from the “black helicopter” corner these days.

My little internal voice has been whispering that this whole scenario is scripted and planned out. Trying to drag Trump into a war for the sake of politics.

I think they know how to pasteurize a guy w/o doing that. So, no, I don’t think along these byzantine lines.

Number one or two in the country might have had him killed so that he’s not a threat to them.

Did you get this from Scott Adams? Because he said it the other day.

His take: Khameneni didn’t care for his too popular No 2 and couldn’t make a peach deal with him alive. So, he fingered him to Trump so Trump could take him out and after a suitable period there will be a peace deal.

The other odd thing I noticed: I saw an aerial photo of damage at one of the bases. They hit the base but the craters seen small for such a big missile. No warheads?

Also, America had prior warning from Iran of the strike and went into shelters at the bases.

There’s a Middle East expert (Steyer I think is his last name?) who as recently as a few weeks ago that the next Iranian leader to ascend after Khamenei dies would be a military strong-man in the mold of a Putin type.

It doesn’t take much imagination to believe Soleimani was this type of persona. I wonder if there may have been a recent power-play involved between the two or if it had recently been discussed.

Who knows, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility for that to happen.

Did the mullahs set up Suleimani?
Considering the fact they were 100% in favor of what he was doing, and the level of freakout after his death, I think the OP’s theory is silly.

This one is far more plausible:

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/tracked-targeted-killed-qassem-soleimanis-final-hours

Spoiler, since few will bother to read the link:
It’s likely the US had informants either within his own ranks, or among the personnel at airports, checkpoints, etc.
We’ve been monitoring his movements for years.
Bush & Obama had had opportunities to hit him, but declined for years, fearing “escalation”.
