I did not imagine things could get much worse for Patrick Reed, but it appears that they have. One month after Reed's bunker incident at the Hero World Challenge, where he was filmed moving sand from behind his ball with his golf club, it was revealed that he recently sent a letter to Brandel Chamblee of Golf Channel warning him about using the word "cheating" on air.
According to Eamon Lynch of Golfweek, Chamblee received a letter from Reed's lawyer warning him about some of his language following the Hero World Challenge. Here's what Chamblee said: "To defend what Patrick Reed did is defending cheating. It's defending breaking the rules."
Here's the crux of the letter from Reed's lawyer.
"The purpose of this letter is to obtain assurance that you will refrain from any further dissemination, publication or republication of false and defamatory statements concerning Mr. Reed, including any allegations that he 'cheated' at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas," wrote Peter Ginsberg, a partner at the New York City law firm of Sullivan & Worcester.
One source told me this wasn't the only letter that got sent out either. It seems as if Reed's lawyer rounded up folks saying inflammatory things about his client and fired off correspondence to them.
The entire thing is a terrible look for Reed, but he's certainly doubled down on his position. Not only did he disagree with the penalty at the time it happened (hilariously insane in retrospect), he's since taunted Australian fans at the Presidents Cup by mimicking himself with a shovel and now sent out these letters.
He cheated at UGA(and stole money from teammates) and now he's cheating in the pros

And he just doesn’t understand why...
Name one. I saw inrterviews with his President’s Cup teammates and they love the guy. Put up or shut up.

Reed has always cut a lone figure, a guy who does things his own way and doesn’t need the comfort of peer acknowledgment. In fact, he was voted the second most disliked player by his fellow pros in 2017. Only the often disagreeable Bubba Watson got more votes.

The President’s Cup is a very public team competition where the players represent the country. They are not going to say anything critical about a teammate in that format.
Reed is the most disliked player on tour by fellow players and has been for years.
Remain ignorant if you must.
Last year at the PGA at Beth Page Black Bubba Watson came over to the rope line between holes seven and eight. He greeted my 6 year old grandson, called him “little buddy”,and gave him a ball and a tee. Beside being a devout Christian he is decent person.

Reed has a history of misbehavior in college up to current time. He has been witnessed by team mates at Augusta State to shaving strokes at qualifying events.
In an excerpt from a recent book by Shane Ryan it states:
“That same fall, several items went missing from the Georgia locker room, including a watch, a Scotty Cameron putter, and $400 cash. When Reed showed up the next day with a large wad of cash, a teammate confronted him and asked how he’d come by the money. Reed said he’d played golf with a professor at the school and hustled him out of the cash. The player in question took this claim to the professor, who had no idea what he was talking about—it had been weeks since the man had played with Reed.”
As for cheating, from the same book using interviews with team mates, again:
“During a qualifying round prior to a tournament, according to sources, Reed hit a ball far into the rough. When he approached the spot, he found another ball sitting closer to the fairway, and was preparing to hit it when several of his teammates confronted him. Reed plead ignorance, but the other Georgia players were convinced he had been caught red-handed trying to cheat.”
Cheating, lying, stealing. All witnessed by people that had a reason to protect him even if it wasn’t proper. And if you look up Reed’s history of larceny and cheating, you’ll find article after article of questions. In way too many cases, where there’s smoke,...... And the pros keep a stiff eye on him and lock their lockers when he’s around as reported by CBS. Furthermore it is said that Jordan Speith refused to pair with Reed in the last Ryder Cup and Woods, the captain, had to pair with him and they lost twice...which of course Reed blamed on Speith who went 3 and 1 in his double competitions with Justin Thomas.
His recent penalty for moving sand to improve his lie is consistent with his history. And as this was done intentionally, he should, at a minimum, be suspended for an extended time.
You may not like Brandel Chamblee. But calling him a liar when there is film of the event in question, when Reed was trying to deny it and was penalized by the PGA for the act, is not good evidence of his innocents. So Chamblee is just stating the proven facts.
