fake news
Dairy farm numbers have been declining for a generation.
Dairy is not as popular with younger folks.
I’m thinking Fake-ish News. There’s got to be more to this story. We’re selling rice to China for crying out loud. Moreover, there are and were thousands of tarriffs in place before President Trump became President.
That is a lie. Dairy farming has been in trouble for awhile. Less milk consumption, tougher market. Dean and Borden have filed for bankruptcy.
I thought trump gave them millions to weather the storm. Probably just the governor and others got the money.
Almond milk and assorted other “milks” are on the rise. Cows are out of fashion. Has nothing to do with China.
Diary farms have been under the gun in KY long before Trump.
Wisconsin has been losing dairy farms long before Trump..

So the farm closings are real but the Trade war being the main cause is complete garbage.
My uncle got into “dairy” a few years ago.
Whst a tough job!
First time I ever heard that China buys much dairy from US.
On the other hand, high tariffs on US dairy (often 50%) imposed by Canada have hurt the dairy industry a lot.
Those tariffs were supposed to be lowered by USMCA, but I don’t know for sure if they will be.
If the treaty addresses that, and results in Canada lowering tariffs, then perhaps we will export more dairy to Canada.
USMCA, after being approved by all 3 countries just gathered dust for about a year until Pelosi finally allowed it to be voted upon. Did that cost tdairy farmers in Wisconsin and elsewhere? Quite possibly.
Sounds to me like if they dropped the dairy price supports they could save a few farms.
Base your business on dealing with commies.....
BS article is BS.
Milk drinking is at an all time low because the leftists and progressives have scared children into thinking that cow farts are destroying the climate. So milk is bad along with eating meat - which is why there’s this giant push to soy/almond milk and beyond meat.
Perhaps you’ve heard some of those excited pronouncements from the same leftist papers?
That’s what’s killing the industry - not Trump’s tariffs.
In the last few months both Dean Farms & Borden’s dairies have filed for bankruptcy. They are 2 of the biggest dairy operations.
Dairy farming has always been a very demanding occupation. But, when dairies shut down from falling business, the milk suppliers will drop by the wayside too.
People not consuming as much dairy products must be the President’s fault too.
Hey, let’s blame him.
I’m sick of democrats.
I don't know about Wisconsin, but here in California, the dairy industry is highly subsidized. It could be all the people getting off of government welfare and food stamps that is party to blame.
I’m wondering how much this digital rag is getting from the Chinese for this tripe.
Dairy farms have been losing ground in Wisconsin and other ‘dairy’ states since the 1970’s.
This is NOT President Trump’s fault. How could it POSSIBLY BE!?!?
This is drummed up cr@p from a progressive newspaper!
Yes, things are NOT rosy, but it is what it is. People ARE drinking less dairy. More milk IS going to cheese makers that get the milk at a lesser rate. Farms HAVE been mismanaged and did not change with the times once they hit that Third Generation, which is true with ANY family operation.
(The First Generation does all of the work and establishes the business. The Second Generation coasts and enjoys the ride and the prestige. The Third Generation takes whatever money is still there and runs!)
The prices for grains are through the ROOF and have been for decades. Again, NOT President Trump’s fault! How could it be? If you don’t own paid-for LAND (See ‘Second Generation’) to assist in the growing of your own crops to feed your dairy cows, you ARE going to take it in the shorts.
We rent crop land to a local dairy. They are a Second Generation family operation. We keep our rent prices LOW so they CAN keep making a living, but seriously? If it comes down to their bottom line, or mine, I’m choosing me and mine.
We could get $5K an acre if they were to BUY it from us, which they cannot afford. We ARE doing them a favor. And we are HAPPY to do so. For now.
I sound mean, but this IS ‘Business 101,’ Kids! If you didn’t diversify your farm/land/business 20 years ago, you’re done.
