Truman became president in 1945 when FDR died. He then was elected in 1948. The 22nd Amendment was passed in 1951 and stated that no person shall be elected more than twice to the office of President, with exceptions for those serving when the amendment was passed.

Trump was elected in 2016. If he is elected again in 2020, then he will be ineligible for any future election to the Presidency.

Yes a man who was elected twice could not be elected again.

But he is not ineligible to the office. He’s just ineligible to get there by election.
