New York Requires Citizens to Obtain ‘Stargazing Permit’ To Admire the Stars in Public Parks

Is that for setting up a telescope in the park? That doesn't matter I guess.
In California, years ago, they made it illegal to have a camp fire on the beach. They discovered the art of the “permit”. You could break the law for a fee. They then made it illegal to drink alcohol on the beach. Almost immediately they invented the “permit” to pay to break that law.

Permit allows after sunset parking for stargazing only, valid January 1 - December 31 at:
Hither Hills - Except July & August
Jones Beach - West End 2 and Field 6
Montauk Point – Upper Parking Lot
Robert Moses - Field 2
Gov. Alfred E. Smith/Sunken Meadow - Field 1 & Field 3
Wildwood – Main Parking Lot
Sold at: Babylon Headquarters-Permit Office (beginning January 2nd), Jones Beach, Montauk Downs,
Robert Moses, Governor Alfred E. Smith/Sunken Meadow and Wildwood

Stars are not free anymore, you know. You need a license to view each one, as they may be proprietarily owned by some other stargazer. To zoom in on them with a telescope or binoculars will cost you extra.
