Not to mention...if the kid balks at giving mom and dad permission...
Mom and dad might just balk at paying for college.
Working in an ER in California in the 90’s. Had a 16 yo come in with belly pain, turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. Because her condition was pregnancy related, I needed her permission to tell her parents. She refused.
Dad asks me “ what’s wrong with my daughter?” I said I can’t tell you.
Almost got assaulted at that point. Tried to calm him down and told him,
“In California, certain conditions in a minor require their consent to tell anyone. For example, anything dealing with sex, an STD or pregnancy....”
Dad took the hint and went in and grilled daughter till she broke down and told him.
