That is undeniably serious.

The authors did saying this was a bio engineered virus. Alarmist writers are attributing that to them when they in fact did not say it.
What they are saying is the virus is similar to SARS, and has four inserts that are closely related to similar segments in HIV-1, which helps the virus to infect a cell.
Even if this a completely naturally occuring virus, given the public perception of SARS and HIV, that is a big flahsing red neon "OH CRAP" due to human nature, regardless of how this came about. As to how common it is for different virus to have similar DNA segments is something I know absolutely nothing about. There is reason to be concerned and suspicious, except suspicion by itself is not proof that this was a enginnered virus.

I would hope the actual scientists and lab techs would know better, but the scut work is often assigned to unskilled labor types who wouldn’t know better and simply sees a chance to make an extra buck.

I was just asked by Steely Tom if this thread should be pulled. I think it should as there is little factual basis for it not based in mere speculation and supposition based on mere partial sequences in junk RNA sections that tend to mutate on their own, that "seem to be similar" to HIV sequences. An "uncanny" similarity in four sequences out of hundreds or thousands is essentially meaningless.

His theory seems to be that this virus originated as attenuated SARS for use as a vaccine, perhaps.
The way he writes and what he presents indicates to me he’s a self promoter.
Bottom live is he didn’t show enough, really. And he may be talking so much because he likes the self promotion.
