UK informal. a person, in the past a female servant, who does the dirty and unpleasant jobs in a house, such as cleaning: He treats me like a skivvy

Yep ...always heard my father refer to that as slang for underwear ...in GB/UK it apparently refers to a “low ranking female servant” ...or a “maid,” I presume.

In the UK...it’s like a servant...though usually female.
