Governors warn Trump rule could lead to big Medicaid cuts
Associated Press ^ | February 6, 2020 | Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar

Governors of both major political parties are warning that a little-noticed regulation proposed by President Donald Trump’s administration could lead to big cuts in Medicaid, reducing access to health care for low-income Americans.

The arcane fiscal accountability rule proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, would tighten federal oversight and approval over complex financing strategies states have long used to help pay for their share of the $600 billion program. Also targeted are certain payments to hospitals that treat many low-income patients. Public comments closed last week amid a chorus of criticism from hospitals, nursing homes, insurers, doctors, and advocates for the poor.

Against the backdrop of an election year, governors are warning the administration of potentially dire consequences.

“States may be unable to adequately fund their Medicaid programs, which could lead to unintended consequences that would negatively impact Medicaid beneficiaries across the country,” wrote Govs. Kate Brown, D-Ore., and Charlie Baker, R-Mass., in official comments on behalf of National Governors Association.

But CMS administrator Seema Verma says the vast health care program needs closer scrutiny and has expressed concerns about “shady” financing schemes that abuse the system and drive up taxpayer costs. …

Wow if Trump loses all the people on Medicaid that are voting for him he won’t win one single state.

Wait...

Medicaid isn’t specifically for the elderly.

A big part of Zerocare in left-wing and RINO-run states was Medicaid expansion. The implication was eventual takeover of all private insurance by Medicaid, of course.

“Medicaid is the backbone of the U.S. health care system; you weaken the backbone and the whole system gets scoliosis,” said”

It’s not the ‘backbone’ it’s the LEECH.

I bet a lot of these high level participants have been cooking the books for a long time, to get more of that sweet federal money.

When it’s time for cutbacks, the bureaucratic rule is to cut the meat and leave the fat, and push the women and children out of the way to get to the lifeboats.

If only it would!

We need to honor the Constitution, not the legacies of past lawless administrations and their unlawful dogooding.

I’m just glad to live in Texas, where our idiot former governor, Rick Perry, did get this one right and knew that expanding Medicaid under Obamacare was some kind of a TRAP...even though most other Republican governors and all Democrat governors looked at it as ‘free money’.

Who actually receives Medicaid? How many recipients could have avoided Medicaid and been able to afford regular health insurance had they applied themselves to their studies and subsequently got a good job? I have ZERO pity for those people who need Medicaid and other welfare because they were walking the halls of their school when they should have been in class, or failing to study for exams or turn in projects or homework. So people who DID apply themselves and worked hard get rewarded by having to pay for the less responsible goof-offs.

And how many illegals are helping themselves to Medicaid? We already know how they clog up our hospitals by using them as a family doctor, how they have forced hospitals into bankruptcy necessitating their closing and how that has caused people, especially those in rural areas to die for lack of a nearby hospital.

Medicaid is like the student loan crisis. It is government money, often corruptly spent, supporting an army of insiders and skimmers, pushing a cycle of ever-higher-costs, leading to more demand for aid, leading to an ever-larger political constituency.

Wash-rinse-repeat.

You can bet5 that illegals and immigrants will not be affected- only law abiding senior and disabled and veteran citizens will be affected-

Medicaid not Medicare, though there are elderly that are Medi-Medi. Just think if there weren't so many illegals collecting welfare, Medicaire, etc., how much money there would be to take care of AMERICANS who need healthcare, food, clothing and shelter. But noooo we put all sorts of obstacles in front of our actual Americans while practically throwing free(taxpayer funded) shit at illegals who A. Aren't supposed to be here to begin with and B. Aren't supposed to be eligible for any of this.

I know I have said this ad nauseam here but before my parents came to America in 1951 they first had to have a sponsor and then they had to wait for an opening and had to go before an immigration judge in their home country to be approved prior to legally emigrate to America. Once here they had to sign a affidavit swearing that they would neither seek or accept any government aid for a period of five years. This they did gladly as did millions of other legal immigrants whose desire was to actually become Americans and not just parasites living of the sweat of others.

Most of the Medicaid load in my area is dual eligible seniors, some of whom spent down and/or stashed their cash.

This is not only to scare seniors...It’s to scare their heirs.

Lower the federal income tax across the boards. States, who are the responsible level of government for welfare type programs, can then step up to the plate on Medicaid type programs if they wish

We don’t need a gazillion different welfare programs.

If you’re getting money from government that is not for goods and/or services rendered, it’s welfare.

Tell the states that they can set whatever definitions they like, but the only assistance they will get from Fedzilla will be in the form of annual, limited block grants. If states choose to fritter that money away, they’ll get even less the next year.

That might convince voters to clean up their legislatures.

Article is about MediCAID. Coverage for those on welfare.

The elderly are on MediCARE.

“States may be unable to adequately fund their Medicaid programs, which could lead to unintended consequences that would negatively impact Medicaid beneficiaries across the country,”

Then perhaps these governors should start enforcing the Medicaid estate recovery acts that all states have in one form or another.

Yeah right: “Governors from both political parties complain tighter scrutiny by Trump” FDS could cause poor people and those who serve them to lose care and money.

Further reading of AP’s (undocumented?)Ricardo Alonzo-Zaldivar’s scare threat article, tells me the lone Republican gov. hails from Romney’s former state - Massachusetts!

One should have guessed, another Romney pinko!
