"Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" is an American country and pop song originally recorded by Freddy Fender in 1959, and re-recorded by him in 1975. It is considered by many to belong to the swamp pop idiom of south Louisiana and southeast Texas that had such a major musical impact on Fender.
"Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" was certified gold for sales of one million units by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The song was a major hit in New Zealand. In 1975, it spent a total of 12 weeks in the number one position in the New Zealand singles charts, making it their longest running number-one single at the time.

He had a couple of crossover hits in the mid-70s. The other one I remember is “Before the Next Teardrop Falls”.
my BIL (rest in peace, Ray) loved this song.
Very interesting. Great song. Thanks!
I prefer the original version from 1959, available on YouTube.

I’m a musician and from that part of the country. Some great music came out of there but Freddy’s wasn’t part of it, IMO.
Did some good work with Texas Tornados too.
Died of lung cancer.
I love “Wasted Days” but I really love “Before the Next Teardrop Falls”. Thank you Freddy.
I believe we saw Freddie Fender perform on television’s Midnight Special back around then. Was that Friday nights? Mom loved his voice and this was the first time she saw him - not nearly so attractive.
Still ok.
We got to see them live twice. Awesome shows.

True story- My 1977 Panama City, FL HS class was asked to vote on a class song for graduation. Many of us voted for THIS one, and I think it wasn’t close The admin didn’t like that, so we were stuck with the Theme from Mahogany. If you’ve ever seen the movie Dazed and Confused, yeah, that was us. :)
"... Cuando se muera mi suegra/ Que la entieren boca abajo/ Que si quiere salierse/ Que se vaya mas abajo..." "When my mother-in law dies/ They will bury her mouth down/ So if she wants to get out/ She'll go further down".
