Today’s Cryptogram

Posted on 02/18/2020 3:01:31 AM PST by nikos1121

Today’s CG from The Arkansas Gazette should be easy. Don’t let the big words intimidate you. Under 4 minutes is good, under 3 is excellent, and under 2 amazing…

PWZHRIZYOYKYJYWZ QPVGYJVJW

JR JUW HWPZRI SUR

FVI ZURCKLWP JUWN.---JRN ZJRHHVPL

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Guessed a common letter and some short words, then the rest.

90 sec or so.
Third & fourth words; then sixth; then last.

After that you can handle it.

JR JUW ... JUWN. pattern did it for me. JUWN ending a sentence pretty much gives it away. No trickery or electronic assistance, other than formating in Excel.

Oh, I cannot complain. Of course, things will still be a lot better when we manage to vote this awful hag out of office some day…

Weird how some just click, others you just sit and stare helplessly.

That’s a good description of what happens to me too.

The one yesterday was like that for me, until I walked away and came back...and saw that it was a quote from Maya Angelou...who BTW is notorious for
sentences that are not grammatically sound, as was pointed out to me by “Swordmaker”...So that adds to the difficulty.

I’ve noticed too, when you find yourself staring, it’s time to count the frequency of letters. Almost always, “E” is the most frequent, (as it should be.)

About three minutes for me as well. Sometimes you get what you can handle.
