Why Napa? UC Davis is closer and better equipped.

I would love to see what POTUS sees from the satellite reports every day. And the NSA must be working overtime. I am sure they are seeing all sorts of scary things.

Tokyo could be a firewall that could break. That would be horrible.

In re Napa county’s confirmed case I have seen “15” as the number for confirmed cases here, still. At the bno news link.

Why no update? Can we trust the US numbers?

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), 13 new patients reside in Daegu, 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul and adjacent areas. They are presumed to have contracted the illness via contact with a 68-year-old South Korean woman who was diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus infection Tuesday.

The woman, probably a coronavirus “super spreader,” also lives in the city.

Who knows. The “official numbers” should be at least 29 (15 plus 14 that came yesterday). I can’t figure out if the 1, possibly 2 NAPA case is part of the 14 cruise ship evacuee cases or not.

As of 8:53 pm EST, there were 2009 deaths and 14,530 recoveries. That’s a 12.1% death rate among all resolved cases.

Is it possible UC Davis is already full of normal flu cases?

There is another possibility to consider. What if the severe effects we are seeing is because of reinfection?
______________________
Viruses are notorious for infecting a host and then retreating and reemerging at a later time when the host’s immunity is weakened. One of the most common is the Chicken Pox virus that can reemerge years later as Shingles. While this virus lurks in the nervous system, apparently COV-19 may hide out in the respiratory and circulatory systems. As with Shingles, when the virus reemerges its effect can be worse than the original infection. This is why I question whether those who are presumed “recovered” are ever truly free of the virus. Let’s hope that when COV-19 reemerges, though possibly lethal the second time around for the host, is not transmissible, which apparently is the case with Shingles.

speaking of California, here in beautiful downtown SoCal, Mr. BP went to Stater bros in Lake Elsinore about 2pm and Costco at about 2:30pm and there seems to be a shortage of bleach.

He said that at the grocer there were less than half a dozen of each of the different ‘scented’ bleaches mostly generic, and he had to buy the two-pk box, which was the last Chlorox box. And for some reason the white breads were gone - but still the artisan and like sourdough and such.

He went to Costco and noticed an older Asian couple were wearing masks no gloves and a man/woman white couple wearing masks no gloves. Hipanic wearing a mask. Older white woman wearing gloves and a mask but her daughter was not wearing either. About 4 or 5 others wearing masks, including two older buying 10-12 cases of water but like not cases of candybars or something that would indicate they were buying for a store or something. The bleach 3-pk box was down to the last two layers on the pallet. He didn't check other cleaning supplies. Costco hasn't had masks for about 3 weeks. The nitrile and latex (more latex) gloves were in good supply but the last time he looked, last week, they were out of large/exlarge.

Mr. BP thought, did I miss mask day or what? That when he walked into Costco it just didn't seem 'normal'. Nothing really noticeable but in the air, so to speak. So he picked up another three pack of bleach, and with the twopack from Stater, we now have 5 gals. Rather unintentionally but nice to have since it's also time to dose the rainbarrels and disinfect the barn.

I can't say if the older Asian couple were wearing masks because of fear, or because they might think it's a preemptive move so others don't look cross-eyed at them - see we are trying to protect everyone, kind of thing.

It's anecdotal, but at least some in this leaning conservative town seem to be worried. I was told by a friend to watch what the Asians do and copy them - they are in contact with those back home and they know what is going on within their own communities and who is where - that's how CCP works).

I think we need to slow down a bit on the conspiracy theories. At this point does it matter if it’s 14 or 15, as long as we are aware of where they came from.

I have to believe the resources keeping this together are stretched pretty thin.

While I agree the numbers in China are probably suppressed, I think that has as much to do with chaos and exhaustion. The same thing is going to happen here even if it’s contained.

The people on site are not really interested in what “we” want to know. I am sure they get pissed at the intern who walks in with a clip board and starts asking for statistics for the PIO. So, missing a person from a known group is not at all what should concern us.

From your UK link...

...The (UK) government has announced it is “working to organise” a flight to repatriate British nationals on board a cruise ship quarantined off the coast of Japan.

“Given the conditions on board, we are working to organise a flight back to the UK for British nationals on the Diamond Princess as soon as possible,” a statement from the department said....

~~~~~~
Working....to organize???? Working??
American passengers should ALL be singing: I’m PROUD to be an American, where at least they came for me.
Now LT, you know better than that. The supply chain disruption to the JIT economy has only barely begun. Wait for the 2d and 3d order effects - I need a widget from PRC to make the thingagummy to assemble the whatchamacallit....
Marvelous. I thought the purpose of government was to overrule the individual for the common good ? At least in theory that is what its supposed to be, but historically and currently it is all about the Benjamin’s. A paper note that is more or less worthless.
South Korea, but not one single case in North Korea. Just like there was not one smidgeon of corruption in the Obama administration.
Goodwill always has wedding gowns. Some are brand new but last year’s inventory and with the store tags attached.
Seven out of 10 confirmed patients with additional new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) announced in Daegu City were attended by Shincheon Daegu Church, which was attended by the 31st patient in Korea.
On the 19th of Daegu, there were 10 additional confirmers and
7 of them, who attended the Daegu Sincheonji Church
and the 31st confirmers, and ***the remaining 3 were hospital staff.***
Comment: this just makes me mad. We’ve had at least 2-3 week lead time on this. I’ve seen 3 stories today of doctors/healthcare workers getting exposed or infected outside of China. This is poor planning by the government. Someone is not communicating the virulence of this disease. I really pray that the folks in charge in the US are communicating this, and hospitals as well as private practices are prepared when a coronavirus case shows up at their door.
At this point, ALL flu cases in the US should be treated as potential coronavirus cases. One location, triage tent, full PPE. Test for flu, If neg., test for covid19. If neg and symptomatic, get a chest CT. It’s overkill, fine, but we cannot make our healthcare workers cannon fodder.
