Flanked by members of the famed "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Olympic hockey team, President Trump celebrated the team's captivating 1980 performance at a campaign rally on Friday.
Forty years removed from defeating the Russian hockey team in the semi-finals of the 1980 Olympic Games, Trump honored the U.S. team's historic victory by bringing captain Mike Eruzione and coach Herb Brooks's daughter onstage during a campaign stop in Las Vegas.
The team stood behind Trump as the president ran through his stump speech and lashed out at the fake news media. The players wore red Make America Great Again hats and told the president they want him to be reelected.
The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, which featured a group of amateur players, beat the Russian favorites by a score of 4-3 in what is considered one of the greatest upsets in sports history.
This is just a ruse by Trump, he wanted to meet with Russian team < /Don Lemon >

Over half that team was the 1979 NCAA champion MN Gophers
Doesnt anyone fact-check their reporting anymore? The Miracle on Ice game was played on February 22nd, 1980 ... not the 20th.
Not quite. By my count, 8 of the 20 players on that roster were University of Minnesota guys, and not all of them played on the 1979 team. Buzz Schneider was 25 years old in 1980 and hadnt played collegiate hockey in several years by that time.
Ditto! I guess time does speed up as we get older lol.
Glad to hear they respect our President.
Should have brought out Al Michaels
That was so great.

Herb Brooks was also from Minnesota. It’s a hockey crazy state and they very much adopted the team. It wasn’t the same at all for the players from the east coast.
If it was Bernie in the office, he would have honored the loosing commies!
Interestingly, the best player on that team was not a Minnesota guy. It was Mark Johnson, from the University of Wisconsin. And he was afraid he was going to get cut from the team because Brooks hated his fathers guts. His father was Badger Bob Johnson, the legendary coach of Minnesotas arch-rival Wisconsin Badgers.
Actually, I was wrong. NINE of the 20 guys were former Gophers. I left backup goalie Steve Jasaszak out of my count. He doesnt show up on some rosters of the 1980 team because he didnt appear in a single game during the Olympic tournament.

(let me know if you want on or off the ping list)
Really sad, Raiders (Los Angeles ghetto) mentality prevails at everything out here. Friends, Kings fans, have asked us to go to the upcoming Ducks/Kings game in Los Angeles with them. I am considering whether it is prudent to wear my Ducks jersey, or leave it home because I am fully aware of the belligerence of that crowd.
Do you think Al Michaels would have showed up if asked?
