I was stationed there at the Marine Corps Supply Center at Barstow in the early 70s. It is the west coast supply center and Repair facility for everything except aircraft. Dry desert climate makes for good storage conditions. Not much there then, the town, the bars, the Goldstone bar, and there was a girl behind every tree for young single Marines. Nothing as exciting as that went on when I was there. A lot of dumbassery here and there but no Wiley Coyotes launching themselves into the desert floor.
I was born in Barstow, lived there till 1971.

Friend of mine introduced me to an app named Flipboard. Still not sure if I like it or not. Has various links with headers of Politics, Crime, Aviation, News, plus several others. The user selects which ones. For some unknown reason this story is under the header of Comedy.
The parachute designed to drop him down gently to the ground was deployed at the beginning of his ascent. If it was able to snap off the rocket at lift off speed, it certainly would not have stayed on during the descent. What caused the premature parachute deployment? Who designed the parachute?
Not sure if he ever got high enough to see that the Earth isn’t flat, but he certainly learned, quite literally the hard way, that gravity (something else he didn’t believe in) is in fact very real.
Where were all the protesters trying to save him from himself? Wasn’t there even one? I thought there were all kinds of nuts showing up to his events. The creeps got what they were there for.

That’s because Barstow is the stop off point of people driving to Vegas. And yes, that McDonald’s is always packed!
