Taken to extremes, liberalism eats its own.
Exhibit A is the decline of one of the most prestigious and proudly liberal private schools in the city.
Ethical Culture Fieldston in Riverdale, founded in 1878 by the son of a rabbi as a model for social justice, racial equality and intellectual freedom, now is convulsed by allegations of anti-Semitism, racial-discrimination lawsuits, quarrels over identity politics, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department run amok and a unionized faculty impervious to criticism.
Disgruntled parents are considering ways of extracting their children, angry donors are closing their wallets and distraught teachers are resigning or taking leaves of absence.
For some parents, concerns were crystallized when Fieldston students became aware that a YouTube video, Secrets of the Living Dolls, featured a new member of the faculty, a self-described large black man with a fetish for dressing up as a sexy white woman in a lifelike latex mask and breasts.
Ive fought for LGBT issues, says one Fieldston parent, but this is indicative of the weird things happening around the school which are rooted around intersectionality and an obsession about identity politics and race.
A school insider says the video bothers a particular group of parents, but in the hierarchy of problems at the school I dont consider this to be a particularly big one.
Far more troubling is an atmosphere at the school of rampant, systemic anti-Semitism.
The issue came to a head this past November when Fieldston invited Kayum Ahmed, who works for George Soros Open Society Foundations, to speak at an assembly, and he likened Israel to Nazi Germany.
The victims of the Holocaust and violence have become perpetrators of violence against Palestinians, Ahmed said, prompting the Anti-Defamation League to blast him for an outrageous . . . virulent [attempt] to blame the victim.

The four Fieldston Alums that I have known are (bleeped) up people.
I wouldn’t laugh. Harvard, Yale and many Ivey league schools started out as Christian based schools. Now look at those pagan sink holes.
Gee, thats too bad
Ethical Culture was always nothing but a left-wing cult. I went to high school with several graduates of the lower school they ran in Manhattan, and once I was invited to one of the events they had for kids who were going to non-EC high schools. It was all raving left wing stuff having nothing to do with either education or culture, and certainly not with ethics. I think we started by losing our minds over a film of an anti-HUAC demonstration in San Francisco (of some years earlier) and then went on to organizing a peace march on the UN. This was followed by learning a Russian folk dance, since the Russians were Communists at the time and therefore seated at the right hand of their God, Marx.
Furthermore, they had a strange cult-like feel about them, and one of the teachers - they were the organizers of these activities - was way over the line in his touching of the teenage girls.
I went only once. Parents who were sending their kids to that joke of a high school certainly would have known in advance and approved, so the latest burst of wokeness must have been nuclear-level.
Now these leftists know how the Covington kids felt.
Moms were coming to the school crying that their kids were growing up so conservative because that was their rebellion against what was going on with the school says one insider.
And that, my friends, is our ace in the hole.
“Ethical Culture was always nothing but a left-wing cult.”
If this stuff was just in a few schools in Manhattan, it would not be a problem. But, this is the direction that the public schools are going in nation wide.
Ive fought for LGBT issues, says one Fieldston parent, but this is indicative of the weird things happening around the school which are rooted around intersectionality and an obsession about identity politics and race.
In other words, if it is just some deplorable cake baker in flyover country, then they are all gung-ho. But when it comes home to roost, well that’s a different story.
Only in America can a poor black boy from Gary, Indiana grow up to be a rich white woman from L.A.
“The school erupted. Parents noted that, while the school had no problem inviting the controversial Ahmed, when a female student wanted to invite Jonathan Haidt, author of The Coddling of the American Mind, administrators threatened to boycott because he was seen as conservative.”
If you’re going to spend $60k per year to send your kid to one of these ‘wonderful’ private schools - perhaps ask how many of the faculty and staff have ‘Education’ degrees. If it’s more than 10%, as is the case here (evidenced by their hatred of America and American values), then find another...or home school. It’s that bad now, as this article shows.
