Which movie version? The Latest One, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber hit musical was not even scary.
Trilogy of Terror. Not really a movie but that doll was damn scary.
I remember having nightmares from “The Other” it was definitely moody and creepy with the two twin brothers...”Holland...WHERE IS THE BABY?”
The 70s had some good horror stuff on TV...a series called “Ghost Story” (renamed later to “Circle of Fear”)
how about a movie called “Something Evil” with Sandy Dennis and Darren McGavin
“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” with Kim Darby and Jim Hutton
“Trilogy of Terror” with that creepy Zuni doll segment
“Legend of Hell House”
“Encounter with the Unknown” (several segments)
lots of “good” stuff.
Brrr...
Finally, someone mentioned the scariest movie of all time, The Changeling.
Also, another of my favorites is The Innocents.
A guy is bored with his life and undergoes a remake, only to have second thoughts. The resolution had me lying in my bed thinking "Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ!"
The scene where our hero is on a gurney being rolled into surgery for an upgrade and a guy comes up asking what religion he is, and you suddenly realize that he is giving him last rites, really freaked me out.
The doc looking at him sorrowfully, saying "You were my finest work" followed by "Subdural Hematoma, I think. Cranial drill." followed by a high-pitched whine as it broke through the skull pushed me over the edge.
To this day (age 86), I will not watch a rerun.
I was referring to the original, silent, version from the ‘20s.
