A British man who was quarantined on a cruise ship in Japan has died from coronavirus.
The Japanese ministry of health said the man was the sixth passenger from the Diamond Princess cruise ship to have died. The ship had been quarantined off the coast of Japan.
He is the first Briton to have died from coronavirus, also known as Covid-19. In the UK, 19 people have been diagnosed with the illness. The ministry did not provide his name or age.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Japan and are in contact with local authorities. Our sympathies and thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
A spokeswoman for Princess Cruises, which operates the ship, said: All of us at Princess Cruises, including the crew of Diamond Princess, offer our sincere condolences to family members and friends for their loss.

Wonder how old he was....
My impression is that this was a First World passenger list, meaning that the Japanese would have been Japanese, the British would be British, and so on. It was just the ticket for First Worlders who wanted a slice of the exotic without actually staying in the exotic cities they grazed.
The ministry did not provide his name or age.
Yup that matters
Why old peeps go on a cruise ship(floating petri dish) is beyond my comp
They always tell us that with the flu or other diseases.
For some reason they keep leaving out age, health status, and ethnicity.
Are healthy people dropping dead where they stand or are the old and sick dying?
Very true. Most people are surviving this.
If the passenger was over 65 years old and had a history of smoking tobacco....
These cruise ships are just a large germ factory .
I was warned to avoid them 30 yrs ago
due to Noro Virus by a local health dept friend .
My wife refuses to go near one after that conversation
I can't imagine just how bad the bed bugs must be. Not to mention the other "germs".
A good friend of ours who is a microbiologist will drive a hell of a long way rather than take a commercial flight.
.
What is a “British man”? Also from story:
“She added: It is my understanding that this British national doesnt in fact reside in the UK, but lives elsewhere in the world.”
And I wonder why the headline was designed to make one think he died in Britain...
