I was going to go to NYC tomorrow - but I just cancelled, not because I’m not worried about the virus but about the insane overreaction of the local government. They’ve been taking about imposing a quarantine on the city, shutting down public transit, etc. and with the complete collapse of law enforcement brought on by no bail and the decision not to charge younger offenders no matter what, I think it’s a place I’d rather not be for the next few days.

The disease is manageable and worth the risk; it’s the bizarre and unpredictable government actions and resulting public unrest that concern me. And this is going to put them into overdrive.

I think the media hysteria began partially as the usual if it bleeds it leads hype, combined with some theory that this could be used to get Trump. And now it’s slipped out of control.

I joined a nephew and his wife (a doctor, her medical specialty in Infectious Diseases) at a Jazz Concert at a theater at Columbia University Saturday night.

No bare hand touching of surfaces outside your own home or auto. No touching of face - mouth, nose or eyes, with your own bare hand. Wash hands frequently. All things way more important than drug store face masks.

When going to the men’s room - the door was open so no one had to touch the door to get in - 1st move was using forearm to move the lever of the paper towel dispenser, 2nd move rip off an end of the paper towels, third move use a piece of paper towel when touching the stall door to open and close it, third move - do business (pee) touching nothing but my own clothes and body, fourth move use same piece of paper towel to reopen the stall door, fifth move leave room without touching water faucet and sink that everyone has used. In the theater I had my outerwear gloves left on since before entering the theater (it was cold Saturday nite).

My nephew’s wife is well informed, even on all the specifics of the case in Westchester county (New Rochele), including the doctors and nurses involved in the case there. Though none of the case has involved her hospital or its staff (in a different area of Westchester County), they are keeping tabs on all persons (including medical staff) that have been involved in or connected to the case; with information sharing agreements between the hospitals as part of their infectious disease protocols.

Sounds reasonable with the emotional irrationality going on here on FR and across America.
