As global markets continue to tank, with Wall Street trading halted after the Dow Jones Industrial Average dove more than 2000 points, and as at least 34 U.S. states and the District of Columbia reporting infections of the novel coronavirus President Donald Trump on Monday doubled down on downplaying the crisis, blaming the news media and the Democratic Party for hyping the outbreak and repeating the risk is still "low to the average American."
"The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Surgeon General, 'The risk is low to the average American,'" Trump tweeted Monday morning before the markets opened.
Later, about an hour after the markets plunged, Trump continued to engage in a confused narrative about the crisis, downplaying the situation and often putting him at odds with the messaging his own health experts are trying to get across.
"So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!," the president tweeted, appearing to attempt to calm fears as the global markets plummeted.
Less than ten minutes before Trump tweeted that "the economy will go on," and characterized the coronavirus as less dangerous than the common flu, Health and Human Secretary Alex Azar told Fox News: Make no mistake, this is a very serious health problem. Nobody is trying to minimize that. It is a very serious public health threat to the people of the United States."

Well, perhaps it IS a bad comparison - we have 22 deaths from the corona virus, and thousands from the common flu in the same time period, despite widespread flu vaccinations.
ABC’s got him now!
I get the defense based on pure number of those who died from the flu. But infection-to-death rates tell a different story.
The DNC Ministry of Propaganda and its Octopus-arm like main stream media operatives are going 24/7 with their latest jihad.
Sounds like DJT is reading our board.
Because he was supposed to compare flu like symptoms react as if it were were Leprosy.
Nothing new. Every day the Democrat media beats up the President, blaming him for a word-wide virus. They didnt treat Obama like this during the year that H1N1 was killing Americans.
That was this morning.
I suspect he has a different view now
Maybe he should compare it to the Swine Flu, ya know, the virus that killed 19,000 Americans under Obama but the commies in the media never talked about because they didnt want ANYTHING hurting their precious messiah
The so-called “news” media would be praising this calm and reassuring leadership — if the President was a Democrat.
By the end of the week we’ll see how much damage the mediaVOMITS have done to trump’s poll numbers!! Pray for him cause he is against a tsunami of hate that only God can tame!! As of now there isn’t anything trump can do in his power but cry out to God for help! Feels like the whole globalist cabal are piling on gleefully and willingly! Help him dear Lord! Give him wisdom and be his hedge of protection that nothing WILL PROSPER that is meant for harm..instead turn it around for good dear Father in heaven!

Both are sicknesses that can be very harmful.
One is known to kill a lot of people regularly.
One is barely acknowledged in the media. The other we are told to shut down society over, and is treated like a sure death sentence, instead of taking simple persuasions that people should have been doing for the other.
One is better understood than the other by the public. That’s the big difference.
Saying this offends people. Why?
While I ultimately trust his sociopolitical instincts, I do think that particular tweet may have been ill-advised. If he’s wrong, it will return to bite him hard.
>>> But infection-to-death rates tell a different story. <<<
We know the US death numerator, but not the US death denominator. China data is unreliable along with other hot spots like Italy.
Why? Because one is endemic and well understood (we can’t get rid of it, and know what to expect), the other is new and apparently much more lethal (we actually have a chance to stop it thru extraordinary measures, and if it gets to flu-level spread we’ll see many more dead).
We can be praying for our President and for this virus to tame down, also for vaccines to get up and distributed in record time. Now that our politicians have allocated 8.3 billion dollars to this, we should be paying scientists to work 24/7 on those vaccines.
The common cold is a Corona virus. That is why he compared it. There are 7 corona virus’ known. 4 are the common cold. One is SARS and one is MERS. This one if very infectious and attacks the lower lungs causing pneumonia. Its quick to replicate. And for most people, the symptoms are the same as the common cold. But for 1 in 5 the symptoms can get far worse very quickly. So Trump is quite right. Its similar to the common cold. Because it is a close relative to it.
Amen!
