Kasparov lived through Cold War and doesn’t like Putin at all and doesn’t understand what he sees as Trump’s ‘cozying’ up to world leaders like Pootie, Kim Jong Un, (for business/dealmaking) purposes.

Kasparov views US politics through the prism of his unrelenting opposition to Putin. Trump — and most Americans — take a pragmatic view that Putin must dealt with in order to serve and advance American interests.
It’s funny. Majority of high profile anti-Putin intellectuals/celebrities of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus......are Trump haters.

He is vehemently anti-Putin and Trump’s talk during the campaign about working with Putin and having a good relationship with him IMO cemented Kasparov’s position.
He has referred to Trump’s racist leanings, so he sounds like he has bought what the MSM/liberal press was selling.
Just because you’re good at chess doesn’t mean you’re clear-eyed about politics.
