LIVE improvisation on original Bach-style tune composed and performed by by pianist Oscar Peterson - with Joe Pass (guitar), David Young (bass), Martin Drew (drums)
Greatest improvisation jazz pianist ever. And his chops are every bit as good as Art Tatum.
Saw Joe Pass at the Pablo Jazz Festival years ago at the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion in L.A.
He did his own thing then accompanied Ella Fitzgerald.
Ohhh My.
I love all things jazz-fugal. And all things Oscar Peterson. Thanks for posting this.
Nice. Reminded me of when he played and recorded some in, was it Amsterdam ..? Herb was on guitar. The trio perhaps lacked a drummer so Herb had a lot of chopin’ to do.
My fave Herb is when he backed John Gray, early 60’s. Recorded at Capital, with the ever so natural Les Paul designed reverb (tunnels under the parking lot).
Thanks for posting
Found Angel Roque on Pandora. Light jazz that’s awesome:

Nothing better.
Dont leave off Monk. He didnt have the chops of the others you mentioned but he had the groove. I can listen to Thelonius all day long.
Also check out Oscar here. If you are a jazz fan it will blow your mind. https://youtu.be/xdd5pn1xs7M

Nice!
Love the Monk (listening to “Round Midnight” at this very moment). Add in Miles Davis and I’m good for the entire day and night.
