From grocery shopping for the elderly to delivering meals or offering free classes online, acts of kindness during the coronavirus pandemic are providing uplifting moments of joy in a United States beset by anxiety.

In California, the most populous state in the nation and one of the hardest hit by the virus, thousands are using internet apps to offer their services to neighbors in need.

Not everyone is being a jerk these days. Let’s just hope that this continues if things get rougher.

And if you have any such stories, tell us about ‘em here. It would be nice to read a few positive posts at this difficult time.

Boy I couldn’t feel worse now after punching that old lady in the gut at her car outside of shoprite and taking her turkey breast and a dozen eggs.

In my defense, they were extra large eggs and she took the punch like a trooper.

An elderly couple with grown children in our neighborhood is giving away toys, games, and puzzles to children walking the neighborhood with their parents.

Our local Kroger is full of elderly people. What’s up with that?

My friend’s church is conducting a food drive to support the newly unemployed.

I’d like to help but grocers are sold out of those staples.

School districts continuing to provide two meals a day to kids who need it. No questions asked. Even have bus drivers doing their routes to drop off food. Senior food deliveries. People repurposing their small businesses to shop for and run errands for the homebound. A local restaurant Facebook page for the community featuring take out menus and specials. Restaurants making homemade bread and selling them dirt cheap and in some cases giving them away. Offers of tutoring and sitting for working families. Pop up food pantry’s. These are all just some of what we have in Youngstown OH.

LOL

Someone posted that scene here :)

Hysterical!

I know, this is a board of good deeds and it would have been nice to just stick to the subject...

but maybe, just maybe the thread needed a really futile and stupid gesture to be done on somebody’s part..and I was just the guy to do it!

This was posted on FR three days ago:

Many of the people who live in my Mobile Home Park are either disabled or elderly. It goes without saying that we are all “poor” by Western Standards. The community has been hit hard by the Quarantine, and many had not had a chance to stock up on food before the grocery shelves went empty. The Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels aren’t operating, and a lot of people got caught without supplies.

My nephew (the Rock Star) is an accomplished chef, and had just recently gotten a job in a high-end restaurant in our area. Yesterday morning, there was a huge shipment of food in anticipation of the biggest night of the year, St. Patrick’s Day. In Boston, this is almost as big for the restaurant industry as New Years Eve. But, instead of going in early to prep for THE BIG NIGHT, my nephew borrowed my sister’s car and joined the manager in shutting down the entire restaurant and cleaning it for the Quarantine.

About 7:00 I got a call:

“Auntie, do you have room in your freezer? I have some fresh food that was delivered this morning and need to put it somewhere.”

Well, of course, I said, “Sure, Come on over.”

A few moments later, he showed up with a CARLOAD of Fresh Salmon, Haddock, Baguettes, Produce, Idaho Potatoes, Deli Bread, Steak Tips, Chicken Breasts, and Fruit. It was Overwhelming. There were gallons of milk, OJ, and mangoes, corned beef, and pizza dough. The Rock Star asked if any of the neighbors could use a “care package”. Well, of course, ALL of THEM!

So we set up a production line with my nephew expertly slicing the meat and fish into individual portions, and my sister, B-I-L and I making shopping bags with the bread, veggies, milk, OJ, etc. Then we added the meats and fish, and I went around the park on foot delivering the bags to our neighbors. No one understood what was going on, so I had to explain over and over that this was from the fancy restaurant down the street, it was all fresh and top quality. Of course, I had to keep my distance! Finally, by 9:00PM, we were finished. I still have a bunch of fish in my freezer but I have other siblings who will like it. Plus, I LOVE Fish!

Later that evening, I got a call from my 88-year-old neighbor thanking me from the bottom of her heart. Of course, if the gub’mint finds out we did this, we will probably be arrested. So don’t tell anybody! LOL!

I’m in LA, and people in the long lines have been very patient and nice, letting elderly people go ahead of them, etc.

A little humor during this difficult time can help us to keep some perspective. Even with the sadness of Kenny Rogers’ death, one Freeper posted the screenshots from the Seinfeld episode with Kramer and Newman pigging out on Kenny’s chicken. I think Kenny would be chuckling.

Chuckles are important right now.

More than ever.

“That’s not gonna be good or anybody” :)

My mom, who’s 87, said he lived a full life and she liked him a lot.

Mom’s just going for the extra full life!

The women in our families live into their 90s...

to offset the young age they put the menfolk in the grave! :)
