(CNN)At a time when countless universities have sent students home, one university is reopening its doors.

About 1,900 students returned to Liberty University, a private evangelical Christian university, in Lynchburg, Virginia, a spokesman confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. and other leaders discussed whether to extend spring break and "risk students having a longer time to become exposed to the virus," the school said in a statement. It decided it was safer to bring the students back to campus.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam issued a statewide order Monday to help slow down the spread of coronavirus. The order bans gatherings of more than 10 people and goes into effect just before midnight on Tuesday.

The order also closes non-essential businesses and shuts down all K-12 schools for the rest of the academic year.

Universities could be considered “residences” for full-time students.

This is CNN’s attempt to criticize a conservative Christian organization. The fact that Jerry Falwell is a college bigwig had everything to do with it.

They are not allowed to contact each other anyway..... :)

It will be an interesting test case. First to see if the virus shows up on campus, and spreads. Second to see if the governor actually has the power to prevent religious people gathering in large numbers.

Although note: The campus is where they live, so going to their campus dorms could meet the definition of “sheltering in place”. And the campus is working on online classes, so they may not really have hundreds of kids in some big lecture hall. If they move other lectures to the big halls, they can sit 40 people in a 300-person room, and everybody can have 2 seats free on either side.

Any citizen getting the virus by contact with these students should consoder suing them, for all they might have.

shutting down college campuses, which is a form of quarantine by itself, and forcing these kids back into the populous, was a dumb idea to begin with...

Explain just how a citizen is supposed to be the virus form one of these students. Surely someone as concerned as yourself is practicing social distancing.

So go isolate yourself. If you do not then you will be culpable if you get WuFlu.

Would you also sue them if they spread the regular flu which has killed 23,000 this flu season? How about a cold which cause billions of economic damage.

Or are you just worried about this one leftist driven overhyped virus?

For some perspective. There are some major universities that exist in relatively small communities. For example Iowa State in Ames Iowa. These students get their health care needs met at student health centers. Iowa state has 37,000 students. If even a small percentage of these students require hospitalization, it would quickly overwhelm the capacity of the local hospital. This is the case with many other large universities. Sending college students home was not a dumb idea. I happen to have one in my basement now, and her getting sick 1,100 miles from home would have been a nightmare.

This place is filled with some serious malcontents. When you see posts from FReepers complaining about open beaches in Florida — 2,000 miles away — you know you’re dealing with people who really have too much time on their hands and not enough to keep them busy.

They are going against good sense by bringing students back to campus. They should be criticized and are putting the entire student body at risk.

Online classes will kill these pigs. It is not a matter of probability, it is a matter of inevitability.

Everyone obeying voluntary quarantine has a bit of time on their hands lately.

I unloaded the wife’s shotgun... just in case she goes nutter.

We are like a week in. I hope I make it to friday before she remembers where she left her pistol. I cant find the frigging thing, and it is loaded.

Going to be a sweet garden this year. I needed this vacation.

It would be interesting to know how many Freepers making these asinine and hysterical comments are drawing a government check. They can afford to beg the government to protect them because the government already provides their income.

Those without government checks can not afford that luxury. Nor do we want it.

The sciences, math, chemistry, labs and research is all colleges will have on campus in the future. Women’s Studies and urban studies, art history, criminal justice, history, and the like, can all be taught on line. State schools, Junior Colleges, Community Colleges and state tech schools will be combined. Private schools will still be expensive, but the cost will level out. Acceptance will be harder in private schools.

Some people need the money. Any money. I lost a full time job when my governor outlawed marriage. I lost 6 out 7 cleaning job clients.

I wouldn’t accept a payment from the state. I save my money. If they insist on sending me a check... it goes back to irs to cover my 1099’s.

I know a lot of people who are literally screwed. No money, no prep, no nothing but hungry children.

This will become serious when our rulers realize they do not have the capability to enforce the numbers of foreclosures, evictions and repossessions necessary to maintain the financial viability of their portfolios. They dont give a shit about your hungry kids... but they do care about their income streams.

As I see it, it is already a done deal. It will not end well for most. The ruling class will be inconvenienced... many others will die. Nancy may shed a tear or two. Same as it ever was.

Been waiting for this, for a long time. You will know it is all coming down when all your nooz readers on the teevee are new faces.

We have 2 weeks.
