Exactly. It’s going to be fun watching these “experts” recover when the kids learnt more than they would have in school. This will separate the motivate kids & parents from the apathetic.

I hope when the parents find out the kids get the lessons done in 3 hours that they’ll raise hell about why the school day is 7 hours long.

Both my wife and daughter are teachers at the high school level in different schools. Both schools had contingency plans in place before our shutdown. Both schools sent their students home with ChromeBooks the Friday before we were shut down on Saturday. Not long after, the largest ISP offered to supply free of charge WiFi hot spots to students that needed them. Both teachers received calls from their administrators to put the plans in place. Our family spent the weekend doing just that. Lots of adaptation of lesson plans. Messages were sent to students on Monday for a start on Wednesday.

Some students started early. Neither teacher was surprised by which students did this. Other students were MIA despite attempts to contact. Parents were contacted if students had not reached out by Thursday. Some parents cracked down on the non-performing students. A few still have not submitted any assignments.

My wife has been teaching for over 20 years. She has seen a big decline in work ethic and readiness for STEM subjects. This will be a life-changing moment for these students. The ones who are resilient and self-starters will succeed. The ones who goof off will take up the mantle of "victim" and will not do well in a competitive environment.

There is an urban legend about a college teaching assistant stapling Taco Bell applications to the homework of slackers... That is called "tough love".

Schools are terrified that many of these kids won’t return because parents will realize the benefits of home education.
