Not to highjack the thread, but like FewsOrange indicates, there is a growing body of evidence that long-term running is perhaps good for the knees. Plenty of evidence the other way when studying people, often former athletes, that start running again after a lay off of a decade or more. Jury is still out.
As to pavement, pea gravel trails and asphalt are noticeably “softer.” But, even on concrete, I find that an smooth even surface helps with a soft foot plant. I’m 69 and have had plenty of injuries from other sports, but never knee problems from running. For reference, I run only about 500 miles per year these days.
Really? Do you have a percentage risk for that? LOL.
Thank you, I’ve worried about my 50 year old sons knees, he runs well over a thousand miles per year.
