VERMONT ORDERS WALMART, TARGET TO STOP SELLING NON-ESSENTIAL ITEMS IN THE STORE
WGRZ NBC ^ | 04/02/20

The order applies to "big box" stores in the state as a way to increase social distancing between customers during the coronavirus crisis.

State officials in Vermont are ordering large retailers that sell critical items such as food and prescription drugs to stop the in-person sale of nonessential products such as clothing and electronics.

The directive, announced Tuesday by Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community Development, was addressed at "big box" retailers.

Whenever possible, stores such as Walmart, Target and Costco must stop the sale of nonessential items within the store and require online or telephone ordering, delivery, and curbside pickup instead.

Big box retailers generate significant shopping traffic by virtue of their size and the variety of goods offered.

“This volume of shopping traffic significantly increases the risk of further spread of this dangerous virus to Vermonters and the viability of Vermont’s health care system. We are directing these stores to put public health first and help us reduce the number of shoppers by requiring on-line ordering, delivery and curbside pickup whenever possible, and by stopping the sale of non-essential items," Agency of Commerce and Community Development Secretary Lindsay Kurrle said in a statement.

The items that cannot be sold in person include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, beauty supplies, carpet and flooring, clothing, consumer electronics, entertainment, furniture, home and garden, jewelry, paint, photo services, sports equipment and toys.

Stores are ordered to close aisles, close portions of the store or remove items from the shelves.

The agency also said showrooms and garden sections of large home improvement centers should be closed unless there is a life-threatening emergency.

Trump needs to address these egregious abuses of power in his next COVID presser. He needs to smack down these governors verbally, or I’m going to assume he approves of their actions. Trump is blowing the election right now, honestly if the election were held today he would not beat an actual Donkey.

this is a huge overreach. Who says what is essential?
i need stuff if i have to stay home.
and if i want to go to WalMart or Target just because i want to, this won’t change that.

More edicts from on high. Now that the ruling class has found out they can just rule without legislation it will never stop.

Does the Ministry of Vermont have a list of what is, and what is not, essential?

I would suggest that rather than martial law , there can be revolution against stupidity

Martial law will come after all the shoes are looted and the stores set on fire by the rioting of urban blacks whose lives no longer matter

....

Trump had better start focusing on the economy! These 100K-240K American deaths from COVID-19 are utter bull sh*t, and Trump knows it!

If he gets cute and trys to extend this bull sh*t past April 30th, he’s going to lose support big time!

Trump needs to start discussing the economy at these pressers!

“Once a store reaches its capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a ‘1-out-1-in’ basis”

Now, we know why our local Walmart’s parking lot looked like it does on Black Friday at noon today.

What People wanted to buy or needed to buy was going to be banned/outlawed starting tomorrow.

More Corona Nazi’ mayors/governors telling us: where, when, how to shop and what we can buy.

The following will be happening at all Walmart stores before very long.

Walmart in Williston is letting customers know it is not offering “non-essential” items for purchase. The store roped off a large section of its store to comply with the governor’s order April 1, 2020. (Photo: APRIL BARTON/FREE PRESS)

What items are considered ‘non-essential’?
According to the news release, large retailers must cease in-person sales of items that include, but are not limited to:

Arts and crafts items.
Beauty supplies.
Carpet and flooring.
Clothes.
Consumer electronics.
Entertainment (books, music, movies).
Furniture.
Home and garden.
Jewelry.
Paint.
Photo services.
Sports equipment.
Toys.
Access to aisles or sections of the store that contain these items will be restricted. Retailers that sell essential goods such as food, beverages and medicine are still allowing in-person sales of those items.
