VERMONT ORDERS WALMART, TARGET TO STOP SELLING NON-ESSENTIAL ITEMS IN THE STORE
WGRZ NBC ^ | 04/02/20

The order applies to "big box" stores in the state as a way to increase social distancing between customers during the coronavirus crisis.

State officials in Vermont are ordering large retailers that sell critical items such as food and prescription drugs to stop the in-person sale of nonessential products such as clothing and electronics.

The directive, announced Tuesday by Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community Development, was addressed at "big box" retailers.

Whenever possible, stores such as Walmart, Target and Costco must stop the sale of nonessential items within the store and require online or telephone ordering, delivery, and curbside pickup instead.

Big box retailers generate significant shopping traffic by virtue of their size and the variety of goods offered.

“This volume of shopping traffic significantly increases the risk of further spread of this dangerous virus to Vermonters and the viability of Vermont’s health care system. We are directing these stores to put public health first and help us reduce the number of shoppers by requiring on-line ordering, delivery and curbside pickup whenever possible, and by stopping the sale of non-essential items," Agency of Commerce and Community Development Secretary Lindsay Kurrle said in a statement.

The items that cannot be sold in person include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, beauty supplies, carpet and flooring, clothing, consumer electronics, entertainment, furniture, home and garden, jewelry, paint, photo services, sports equipment and toys.

Stores are ordered to close aisles, close portions of the store or remove items from the shelves.

The agency also said showrooms and garden sections of large home improvement centers should be closed unless there is a life-threatening emergency.

Ah, the socialist’s fave phrase, “Ah, that was easy.”

They didn’t object at the stay at home, and so the next steps begin.

That Second Amendment will be needed, guaranteed.

These vermin can only go one way.

I have the great John Banner to thank.

Who, if memory serves correctly, "knows nothing!"

But the problem is-you tell a clothing store to shut down, claiming it is “non-essential” but then you let people buy cloths at Wal-Mart.

It’s the antithesis of “free market.” You are picking and choosing winners and losers.

Isn’t this the state represented by politicians like Leaky Leahy and Bernie the Bolshelvik?

Why would the residents be surprised to find the jackboot on their necks?

*** Does this have anything to do with the Hobby Lobby complaints? ***

My daughter has a jewelry business, and there are sometimes things she needs for that business that she can get at Hobby Lobby, and not have to wait days or weeks via mail order.

I have more concern with Norrad going underground....There’s more going on here than appears on the surface.
With CCP likly working with their allies in Central American . Admitted or not we are at war with the Red Dragon. Chairman Xi is cunning and strategic; President Trump is countering.

When the elastic goes on your shorts, you need new clothes.

the problem here is that big box stores aren’t just grocery stores

Thank god for that. They just set up hospitals at Javits Center in NYC. How often do you thing someone had to go to the local hardware store to buy stuff to get it all set up? You thing the central planners at the Army Corps of Engineers have a complete list of everything needed for all contingencies?

You people just have no clue.

one person/one cart

Even this has exceptions -- my daughter is currently the "designated shopper" for the family. She is buying groceries for our 3-generation home, and also for my mom & step-dad who live nearby (mom is 92 & he has chronic low-grade leukemia) . My daughter has been using 2 carts so she can keep the purchases separate.

I saw a post earlier where they said they had been harassed in Target for buying printer ink & paper, which are "non-essential". Well, maybe so, but what if you are being asked (forced) to "work from home", and you don't have enough supplies to last during the shutdown? Anybody know where we can dredge up some old mimeograph machines??

They will keep on pushing and pushing. This crisis will go on forever. It will never end. I wish it will end now.

The Democrats probably want to start Civil War II. They want people to rebel so they can smack them down.

I wish Trump were a little stronger and not be taken in.

The Dems and the media are orgasmic over this! This entire episode is setting a very scary precedent! Just wait until the Dems control the Federal government! They won’t forget we elected Trump!

Sadly, we have some FReepers applauding their freedoms being taken away in the name of keeping them safe! Idiots!

Ironically Walmart has been the only place I've been able to find toilet paper since this Coronapocalypse all began.

I am been following this since Mid Jan

The only way China got this under control (if you believe them saying it is under control) is to do a complete lockdown in the hardest hit areas

and they only allowed 1 person per household to get groceries and other true essentials every 3 days, other than that zippo

and most if not all factories shut down , including what many here would be “essential”

here we are doing it half-assed

you can make an argument for almost anything to be “essential” , that is why we are so screwed....

(oh and if you didn’t wear a mask you got arrested)

every western country has under estimated this virus

LOL..you really think the Army Corp of engineers don’t have the correct tools

perhaps a solution is to limit the number of people in the store at any one time

Dumb. I mean, they’re already there walking around the store.

That’s about as dumb as letting the criminals out of jail. I mean, you had them quarantined!
