Yup. At Kennedy Space Center there was a constant reminder NOT to park on the dry grass areas. And yes, there was dry grass in Florida. :-)

Company wheels usually are, especially when the dealer sticker is still in the window. 😁 Now it's the wife's turn to buy a new vehicle (we alternate when possible). I want her to buy another new F-150 extended cab. We bought one back around Y2K, and it was loaded. I mean loaded. Rode like a Caddy, had enough room inside to swing a cat around by the tail, and it could climb trees. If the dealer hadn't effed us on the warranty and a construction truck pulled a hit and run on the bed, we'd probably still own it. It was sweet and muscular.

Maybe the location had limited water availability and they had to shuttle water in tankers.

Wonder if they had extra due to MLB Spring Training? I think Twins and Red Sox train there.

We’re in dry season right now and haven’t had any rain to speak of for weeks. Just about anything could have started a fire. As to the high number of vehicles, I suspect the early end to season due to Coronavirus left a glut of rental cars and that the agencies hadn’t been able to move out. The airport lot was probably the only place large enough to allow for consolidation and some degree of security. We’ll have to wait and see the investigation results.

Insurance scam?... Rental business must be close to zero and those vehicles were likely on a payment plan.

It is supposed to be “In Season” there right now.
January to end of March is when all the Snowbirds come down. The rental car companies bring an unbelievable amount of rental cars to SW Florida in November and redistribute in April/May.
Naples, Marco Island and Ft Myers more than triple in population during that time.
(My neighborhood in Naples has 96 homes. Only 20-24 have year round residents.)
