Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus
Science Daily ^ | 11-15-2019 | Yale University

Posted on 04/08/2020 11:44:14 AM PDT by Brookhaven

The ketogenic diet -- which for people includes meat, fish, poultry, and non-starchy vegetables -- activates a subset of T cells in the lungs not previously associated with the immune system's response to influenza, enhancing mucus production from airway cells that can effectively trap the virus, the researchers report.

...researchers found that the ketogenic diet triggered the release of gamma delta T cells, immune system cells that produce mucus in the cell linings of the lung -- while the high-carbohydrate diet did not.

Not sure if it will protect against COVID19, but it probably wouldn't hurt.

“Mice fed a ketogenic diet were better able to combat the flu virus than mice fed food high in carbohydrates”

I sure hope the mice appreciate all we’ve done to advance the quality and quantity of their lives.

And bats and snakes.

Here's a pretty good description of it.

Ketogenic Diet

There are tons of great videos on it.

I have been on it (on and off) for many years. It's not for everyone (or so they say), but it works well for many.

That's not true. Only "raw" bats and snakes on keto.

And you can't serve them on a bed of rice or pasta.

It may. The ketogenic diet normalizes HbA1c levels. Those with high levels have abnormal levels of glycated hemoglobin. This viral infection is particularly bad for those with elevated HbA1c.

Democrats fed to mice and/or rats would completely stop the mass hysteria over this disease.

It is also this runaway mucus production that eventually kills you if your coronavirus gets that far.

Crap! I’m usually keto, but now and then, mostly now, it’s Friday night pizza or pasta. Hosed by the addiction to the sauce.

Every time I read an article about a study, and most times even an abstract of the study, I scratch my head and wonder why they never use numbers.

They showed that mice fed a ketogenic diet and infected with the influenza virus had a higher survival rate than mice on a high-carb normal diet.

Twice as high? Ten times higher? .5% higher? It kinda matters but you usually have to read the whole study and even then you're lucky if it wasn't relegated to the footnotes or the caption to a scatterplot chart.

Very low carbs, moderate protein, and high fat.

Ketogenic diet activates protective T cell responses against influenza virus infection

I am very pro-ketogenic diet, however this is still a murine model. Murine models do not necessarily recapitulate human metabolism.

“...includes meat, fish, poultry...”

Not really.

Keto is about converting your body to burn fats instead of carbs.

So it’s low carb AND low protein.
It’s really ruffage/fiber and FATS, with some chicken thighs thrown in.

Keto Bomb- melts some Coconut Oil in a pan, add Cocoa Powder. Put it in flexible ice cube trays in th fridge.
Eat ‘em to ramp up your FAT intake.
