While coronavirus closures are coaxing wildlife into the abandoned streets of many a metropolis, in one Israeli city the four-legged interlopers are assertive and, well, quite boorish.
Wild boars, some as bulky as Rottweilers and traveling in family packs, have been trotting through Haifa in increasing numbers. Their once-nocturnal visitations now take place throughout the day, as they root through refuse, spook domestic pets and even block roads.
The visitation, since nationwide lockdowns came into effect this month, has revived debate among residents of the hilly port city as to policy regarding the pests.

years ago I lived in a new suburb close to the county landfill. an early morning walk might encounter a boar or two. scared the crap out of me.

There was this Israeli guy back in the day who came up with a good way to take care of a bunch of wild pigs.
A friend in Haifa sent me pictures of these around his apartment - scary.
Squirrels seem to be having a good time. Fewer cars on the road to run them over.
Another thing the Romans left behind — feral pigs.
Not joking. I got in trouble when I was a teenager for setting spring traps to kill them. We’d just go throw them away. Anyway, apparently you needdd a permit to do this. And it looked weird for a Jewish kid to get a trapping permit for swine. So I didn’t get one.
Yeah. Supposedly. But in reality meat is expensive and they eat them.

Cast an unclean spirit into them, they stampede over a cliff and drown. Problem solved.
This has been happening in many places in the world recently.
GMA showed clips of a Kangaroo hopping through some place in Australia down a city street. Then three penguins going for a stroll down some city street in South Africa.
It is similar to the wildlife & forest that has taken over the Chernobyl zone in the Ukraine(brown bears, wolves, etc)

It makes me think of the Chernobyl miniseries when the daily job of the two soldiers was to go out and shoot/kill dogs whose owners had to leave them behind.

Since Jews and Muslims don’t eat them, the only predator for them leaves them alone.
Haifa is a gritty working class neighborhood just south of the much more Jewish Tel Aviv. Haifa has Muslims, illegal alien blacks from Africa most of whom are Muslims, Jews too!
I ate a great street level Falafel as we drove though in the mid 1990s. All the trimmings were 15 ft away, out on display, from the passing traffic.
