The possibility that pubs may not reopen until a vaccine for Covid-19 has been found has been described as a nightmare scenario by the body that represents Dublin publicans.
The Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) said many pubs will be put out of business permanently if such a lengthy closure occurs.
It was commenting after Heineken Ireland put its staff on a four-day week for two months due to the falloff in demand for its beer products since the lockdown began. [ ]
Minister for Health Simon Harris said at the weekend he could not see how people could return to packed pubs as long as the virus was still in the community and in the absence of a vaccine.
These comments petrified the sector, LVA chief executive Donall OKeeffe said, adding such a long closure was the absolute nightmare scenario.
If that happens, then most pubs in this country will be out of business for good.

Good Luck!!!
It wouldn’t surprise if that was part of the plan. Liberal do-gooders have always hated pubs for some reason.
This doesn’t surprise me at all, another “benefit” of the lock-down.
I’m sure, at least here in the UK, the establishment regards pubs as nasty seditious places where ordinary folks gather and, perhaps after a little drop of liquid refreshment, inhibitions are lowered, and people discuss what they really think of our government and politicians!
“Never let a crisis go to waste”
Duh. In my area a few restaurants that decided against take-out originally had signs up that said something like “we look forward to seeing you again soon.” In the last week and a half many now simply read “closed due to corona virus.”
Duh was my reaction too. What do elite Leftist journos expect? They hate Trump - do they think he can save us? (he cant)
WE should expect more protests and division, as the system begins to break apart. Over a bad chest cold.
No way! Ireland is NOT going to go without its pubs. To even think it could is ridiculous.
No they won’t.
