If you watch Godzilla in the original Japanese you can learn a new language. Perry Mason was a fag?

Sarah Karpanty, 44, a mother of two middle schoolers in Roanoke, Virginia, said the reality kicked in last week when spring break ended and home learning began. “I wanted to get into a fetal position and hide out,” said Karpanty, a professor of wildlife biology at Virginia Tech

Professor? Oh, my.

Hard to believe, but yes.

They sent the kids (3 of them) for one year. Very frustrating.....lots of time doing math games on tablets in the classroom, they didn’t have a clue how to teach reading, incredible amounts of wasted time. Lots of occult books in the library, classroom, etc. Very discouraging.

Their behaviour was going south, life was hectic, she felt like she hardly saw the kids, plus absolutely senseless projects.

Here’s an example of an assignment sent to the parents whose kids are home now.

Math lesson:

- instruct your child to clean 1/2 of their room
- when you have lunch, have your child eat 2/3 of their sandwich
- go for a walk, and have your child smile at 3/3 of the people they see

I kid you not.

The topper is that the parents are STILL having to pay the tuition while closed.

And that’s what this is, propaganda. It’ll never work. You can’t do it. The kids will suffer.

Pffft…

Are all parent cut out to homeschool? Obviously not, but why not put out articles of encouragement and put out ideas on how to make it work. Be aspirational rather than defeatist. Now if they were talking about global warming it would all be cheery talk about we MUST do something.

One side effect is pronouncing the name “Gojira” for the rest of your life . . .

Well considering how much of the day at school is padded with piffle or worse I doubt very much these children will lose much by their parents simply ending the school sponsored lessons early.

Wusses. We home schooled eight over a 25 year span. There was a three year period where we had 7 students studying 50 separate subjects.

It was a good experience.

That may not be true at all. These days you can have the correct answer but still get a failing grade because you did not use the “right” method. That can be very frustrating for both the child and parent. Check out how long division must be done now. Hint:Knowing the answer because you have mastered your multiplication tables does not count. You must use graphs!!!!

Imagine not being able to teach your kids basic math. Never mind giving up after just one week, as this Alexandra Nicholson woman did.

Perry Mason was a fag?

Raymond Burr was a fag. Perry Mason most certainly is not.

For parents to go from a set school schedule to distance learning, with everything else going on, is not easy but it is not impossible. What is interesting about this whole experience are some of the following that come to mind:

1. The media are mass-manipulators
2. School/College is filled with BS, feel good assemblies, other indoctrinating subject matter. This is shown by the length of the day and workload remote vs the time they were going to school
3. Most of the states in this country are broke and have been wasting money for a long time.

This is a perfect time to introduce children to reading. Turn off the TV and let them read whatever they want all day long. Even if it’s Harry Potter. Eventually, they read other things. Let them download some Kindle books if you don’t have a home library. The biggest favor a parent can do for a child is to have them develop a life-long love of reading.

That’s getting lost in a lot of this discussion. It’s one thing to home school when you have a stay-at-home parent, but most families don’t. Some families can make home schooling work even when both parents have full-time jobs outside the home, but I don’t see how you could do so at the drop of a hat in the middle of the school year.

I have a law practice that consists of my wife and me, and we are working from home because my normal office is closed. We have a toddler who is normally in day care on weekdays, but we had to keep him home yesterday because he had a fever. Needless to say, productivity dropped like a rock. I can only imagine what it would be like if we had to handle his education as well.

I agree, but not so with everyone - homeschooling is sometimes NoSchooling - kids grow up illiterate and unable to do basic math.

Sounds just like public school kids.

Sadly, that same scenario applies to public schools too. What's actually even worse than public schools turning out illiterate and mathematically ignorant kids is the political indoctrination they teach, which is nothing but leftist propaganda including that horrible book written by Howard Effing Zinn (for example).

What needs to happen is that the government get completely out of the education business. All education should be either home schooling or private schooling.

True, private school is now mostly for the kids of wealthy parents. But if our corrupt, self-serving, unionized public school indoctrination centers were to lose all federal and state funding, private schools aimed at poorer kids would pop up all over the place because there would be market demand for it. In other words, free market education is the way to go.

And I agree with Donald Trump that if the government MUST fund education, it should do it in the form of parental vouchers - with not one dime being paid directly to school systems.

Let the parents decide how and where their kids should be educated. That's what freedom is about. It's not about the current leftist crap which is now being pushed by our elite academic system providers who feel that unionized government employed "professionals" should be in charge of our children.

Graphs?

Those were necessary for more advanced algebra, e.g. parabola, hyperbola, logarithmic equations etc. but for long division?

Perry Mason is one of the best TV shows ever made.

Ironside was really good too.

Raymond Burr in private was quite the contrast.

Distance learning is not homeschooling
It is the opposite.

Pub schools the dept of education will obfuscate this to retain control. Duh
