“ rather than figure out basic math”

Interesting because i remember my mom teaching me basic math even before i started school.
Years before the internet existed,too.
Of course, she had a husband who worked and she stayed home and raised 5 kids.
I guessing this women is a single parent with one kid?
Probably gets some kind of government assistance even if she does work,

Reading decent books.
Some discussion about the books.
Some basic math stuff.
Family experiences (cooking, gardening, balancing checkbooks, etc.)

It doesn’t have to be hard. Not every homeschool family is having the kids include Greek and Latin in the curriculum.

Anything other than parking them in front of the Disney Channel will be better than your government school.

Honestly, it seems like strong support for what a lot of us on this board have been saying—the lockdowns are causing real harm, and it’s time to reopen both businesses and schools.

Yes and with a kindergartener.

I hope they remember which panic-creating party put them in that spot come November.

We home schooled three children, two of which have graduated college.

These people don’t know how to teach their own children. Pretty pathetic. Just read to them. Have them balance your checkbook. Have them color pictures. Teach them about life. Go to you tube and get free piano lessons. Have them watch history videos. Read the Bible.

Naw! It can't be that easy. < /sarc >

I intended it to sound worse - as in, these specific children are way behind the kids who go to public school. FYI: I went to public school - did better than some, worse than others (vs. private schooled, home-schooled)

They don’t want to encourage people’s kids to be free of brainwashing.

My mom worked a full-time job from 6AM to 3pm, and still had time to tutor me over my multiplication tables.

Part of me wonders if some of these parents cant even understand the material themselves.

I agree, my personal examples are kids who were having trouble keeping up with school - Howard County, MD - so it was not the case that the schools are broken as they are so many other places.

Not at my my private christian school. However I will say remote lead it takes a good piece of my day to supervise and help and it is difficult when working full time. My little one is just in first grade it would likely be that much harder if she were older

And if there is no more public school, property tax will plummet.

In some areas, school tax is 60% of the total property tax.

... is really, really hard,” said Alexandra Nicholson, whose son is in kindergarten in a town outside Boston.

Yeah right. It takes a 1st grade education to teach a Kindergartener. ;-)

I wonder how much of this supposed parental angst is caused by the parents themselves trying to keep Little Johnny ahead of his peers - or by parents in general trying to keep up with the latest curriculum that puts more emphasis on social engineering than the 3R’s.

Perry Mason is one of the best TV shows ever made.

Yes. Mr. Gardiner did the world a favor by not really defining Mason's "look", allowing Raymond Burr to define it.

Here's a screen test of William Hopper (Paul Drake) trying out for the role of Perry Mason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLjFgSLw2QE

Not everybody can actually do it but these pathetic souls who just give up and give their kids to the state are disgusting.
