I agree, but not so with everyone - homeschooling is sometimes NoSchooling - kids grow up illiterate and unable to do basic math. And if they are boys, they cannot even get pregnant like mom did as a lifestyle choice.
Sounds just like public school kids.
Sadly, that same scenario applies to public schools too. What's actually even worse than public schools turning out illiterate and mathematically ignorant kids is the political indoctrination they teach, which is nothing but leftist propaganda including that horrible book written by Howard Effing Zinn (for example).
What needs to happen is that the government get completely out of the education business. All education should be either home schooling or private schooling.
True, private school is now mostly for the kids of wealthy parents. But if our corrupt, self-serving, unionized public school indoctrination centers were to lose all federal and state funding, private schools aimed at poorer kids would pop up all over the place because there would be market demand for it. In other words, free market education is the way to go.
And I agree with Donald Trump that if the government MUST fund education, it should do it in the form of parental vouchers - with not one dime being paid directly to school systems.
Let the parents decide how and where their kids should be educated. That's what freedom is about. It's not about the current leftist crap which is now being pushed by our elite academic system providers who feel that unionized government employed "professionals" should be in charge of our children.
Given two examples, public schools and home schools, which do you think generates more illiterate students that are unable to do basic math? Which of the two do you think has more students get pregnant while still in school? Which of the two has more students that end up married and having children rather than a spate of single parents?
There are different types of Homeschooling. Some families practice Unschooling, that is letting kids do what interests them. What ever works for your kids, being educated at home is best!
Please provide actual names. I know hundreds and hundreds of homeschool families and none are even close to your description which is I suspect built on ignorance of the real facts. That’s not a knock on you. It’s just that the establishment tried to find these types and in my almost 30 years experience with homeschoolers have found that it does not exist.
Well, we homeschooled our three children, and I followed a rather laissez faire method. They are all now successful, well-adjusted adults. One of them has a Ph.D in toxicology and is a cancer researcher. BTW, I let him spend a great deal of his school time reading Japanese history, because that interested him.
Children are born learners. Traditional schools destroy curiosity and love of learning.
